Mio confirms tech flaw in some P550s

Message to all P550 users

Mio Technology has confirmed the presence of a technical flaw within the GPS function of a limited number of Mio P550 personal digital assistants (PDAs) on sale in Europe.

Users of the affected products may experience weaker that normal GPS reception leading to difficulties in securing a fix on the satellite signal. In technical terms, this will lead to a prolonged ‘Time to First Fix’.

This condition affects approximately 9% of Mio P550 units available in Europe that were manufactured and sold before August 2006.

Users are invited to return affected units to their point of sale where they will be sent on to the respective Mio Repair Centre and repaired free of charge. If returning the device to the original point of sale is not possible, please contact your local hotline number.

The two year warranty available on all Mio P550s manufactured before August 2006 and subject to this recall will be extended by three months.

As an added precaution, the remaining inventory of Mio P550s at dealers or distributors in Europe is being recalled for verification and repair if necessary.
