Hello,

I've been using the TomTom 5 Mobile software for some time. In the meantime I decided to give it a try to Route66 Mobile 7.

These applications are installed on a 1GB MMC card, which goes onto a Nokia 6630 phone. The GPS signal comes through a Globalsat BT-338 receiver.

I'm able to run both applications, they both pinpoint my current location, for any given purpose. Nevertheless I noticed a strange behavior after running the Route66 application.

As you might be aware of, the GPS Status screen of TomTom5 Mobile gives you the GPS position (in decimal), as well as the signal level for each locked (and "almost locked") satellites. That signal level comes in the form of a blue or gray bar.

And here's where the strange things begin: after running the Route66 application, my TomTom doesn't show the GPS signal level anymore. Instead it shows a blue circle at the bottom of the bar frames for each locked satellite (for those which are not locked, only the number is displayed at the bottom of each frame).

The first time this happened I solved it by resetting the GPS receiver with SiRF demo (by sending an initialization data in order to recall the factory values). Nevertheless this surely isn't a good solution for such an akward issue.

So, did anyone came upon such an issue? What could be causing this? And what should I do in order to avoid it?

Best regards.

This is caused by Route 66 tampering with the NMEA programming of the receiver.

You can avoid the issue by no longer using Route 66.

In addition you should complain to their support department for including such a headless feature.

They are not alone though, Navigon once tried to do the same.

You can use any NMEA tool to re-enable the GPGSA sequence.

Thank you very much for your reply.
I'm glad to know that it is nothing wrong with my setup, but rather with the R66 software.

What should I do in order to "re-enable the GPGSA sequence" that you mentioned? Can you mention any specific software that enables me to do that, and can you please describe the process?
