hmmm...

Doesn't seem to work for me. I find the file alter it as advised, but when I copy DATA.ZIP back to the c710 miomap won't work. All I get is a black screen. I then have to reset and put the back up copy back in.

I can't seem to get round this. Any thoughts?

Hi Palexr,

i had a similar problem late last night trying out the edited data.zip file. I too got a black screen with a message about miomap not being found and to insert a SD card (there already was one with the european maps in the unit). Same as you, i had to copy the original file back and delete the edited one. I will try again tonight.

You have to edit DATA.ZIP in place. If you try and unzip it, edit it and then zip it again, it doesn't seem to work.
PM me and ask for DATA.ZIP and I'll send the working, edited file! Try that one - it's the one that's been working on mine for a few days now without any hitches!

Ravi,

Tried your DATA.ZIP file and the same problem re-occured! Must be becasue I have a c710. AS you suggest in your PM it seems there might be a difference between the 510 and the 710 on this.

Ah well...

Thanks anyway.

Just tried it slightly differently again.

Extracted the original DATA.ZIP file
Amended the menu file, saved it
zipped the lot back up
put it in the mio

got an error message this time!

Failed to open file: ctype.dat
exciting application

Damn!
I guess that this mod is only for us 510 users. There's got to be a way round this. Anyone else care to pull the data file apart and take a look?
I suspect a checksum has been introduced on the 710 that's not there on the V3 510e software.
Damn!

Yep, well not only that, but now my original DATA.ZIP file doesn't work either anymore. So, when I press miomap all I get now is the black screen of death!

ARGHHHH!

Takes a deep breath and tries to sort it out....

It's back!

I had to delete the DATA.ZIP file that was on the mio, then put the original one back in.

Phew! 8O

Anyway, I think I will wait to see if anyone else with a c710 has successfully accomplished this mod - just for the moment.

Hi Palexr,

I had the same initial problems; black screens, errors messages... But eventially got it working at the end :D ...

You need to check and make sure few things are in place... Hope this makes sense... here goes...

1) Directory paths for all the files in the DATA.ZIP should be exactly the same as the original DATA.ZIP file! When you zip it back up after editing the menus_320_240.ui file, check that this is the case. (Winzip lets you zip it up with full path info).

2) New DATA.ZIP file size should be 2,370 KB, or very very close.

3) When everything looks OK, copy the new DATA.ZIP file over the old one.

Hope this helps.

Not sure what I was doing wrong. I think I was zipping the whole Data folder, so that I got DATA.ZIP - data - .......

Anyway it works now, thanks guys.

Tried this last night and messed up badly. Replacing the DATA.ZIP from backup did not help, neither replacing it from the DVD that comes with the device. The MIO was complaining that one of the files in the DATA.ZIP was missing and did not start the app.

So, had to wipe everything and reinstall from scratch. To add insult to injury, the map transfer from DVD did not work (error message) so now I have to transfer 850 MB worth of maps via bluetooth.

20 hours...

/M

Hi tegel.
Was that a tongue in cheek 20 hours? Wink
If it wasn't, there must be something wrong with your Bluetooth.
Mine took 1 hour 20 minutes with v1.2 BT, and I thought that was an eterniity.
