Leadtek 9553 as a wired receiver?

Slightly odd question but bear with me :-)

I have the excellent 9553X, I can get it to work with TomTom via bluetooth fine. I have a lighter socket splitter that has 2 PS2 ports (the round ones) on it. The first connects to the iPAQ to power it and the 2nd has a mini USB plug which I can connect to the 9553X to power it (It used to have another wired GPS receiver on it)

The problem occurs if I connect both the iPAQ *AND* the 9553X together. The 9553X drops the bluetooth connection and won't connect as a wired receiver (using the standard TomTom settings). If I disconnect either the iPAQ or the 9553X lead from the power, everything works fine. I believe this is something to do with the fact that the usb lead is also used for data connectivity.

Is there a way to either a) get the 9553X to be wired when connected via the USB or b) ignore the USB port connection for data and just use it for power?
