Guys,

Right. I'm soon to be GPS-less (My old boss wants his IPAQ back), so i need to look for a replacement.... Anyone give any advice please??

Having previously owned a Garmin "yellow handheld" one (now what WAS the name of that one) which was more of a handheld orienteering thing, Ipaqs (3900 and the newer 6315) and a Packard Bell GPS400, i have the following requirements :

MUST have 3D maps (none of this overhead stuff)
Must be easy to import POI's/Speed Camera Database
Must be an All-in-one unit (similar to the Tomtom units)

Perferable would be Bluetooth, non-tomtom (as with a recent "expereience" with Tomtom's support i have no confidence in them). Also preferred would be the ability to do TMC/traffic reports (or at LEAST as an option)....

Have been looking at the Navman 750, however the 4 Gig internal memory (as far as i know with no MP3 playback facility - not imprtant but seems a waste) and the gimmick of taking photos as effectively POI's it seems overkill and just a gimmick rather than actually useful.

Only need Maps of the UK at present, with the ability to upgrade if needed (not forseen at present).

Must be really easy to use as the misses needs to use it!

Like the look of the Navman 530/7xx series (sleek Black), however anything considered - as long as the controls arent over confusing (and they dont have BT - :o )

Finally would be nice if the unit was able to cope with handheld Pedestrian stuff, since wouldnt mind using it for Geocaching too if the option was there, however not essential.

Anyone any clues???

Why do you not like Tom Tom?
Not all software/hardware please everyone.
There is bound to be something you do not like when you try other software unless there is specific requirement you know of a particular software.

What about a PDA/PPC? Do you need that or do you want just a GPS?

Look at the Mio 510/710.
The 710 has all maps of Europe built in at a great price, has TMC built in.
C510 has UK map at consierably lower price, TMC is extra.
They are CE4.2 devices, NOT PPC. So software rather than built in ones (include quite a few NORMAL use ones) is limited and at extra cost as opposed to a PPC device.
The software is Mio Map.

If you want a PPC, there are also Mio P350/550, with or without software so you can have software of your choice. Destinator/Navignon support TMC. But you need TMC add on for the PPC.

Then there is Eten G500 which has everytihing - phone, PPC, GPS, Navigation software including TMC.

All above all in one have sirfIII GPS, which is almost mandatory if you are getting a new GPS. I am not recommending them. I am just quoting them as samples and there are other brands/makes.

It is a trend to get an all in one rather than a separate GPS (bluetooth or wired) and I think it is better.

to be honest I never used the functions of the IPAQ Pda's anyhow...

Nope, not really loking for a PDA style device as invariably (not always nowadays) these are 2 units, and i'm looking for a single unit.

The reason why i want to steer away from TomTom is the fact that their support scares me. I had to ask a simple question 4 times before they could understand the question, and then they decided to answer with the incorrect answer which didnt relate to my problem!! I will vote with my feet if i can.

However thanks for the recommendations. I Really like the Mio C710 :D
If they did one with a slightly larger screen (maybe 4") then i'd buy it now!!

Any more suggestions?? Anyone give any reports on what the C710 is like to use???
