Hello, I've just purchased a fairl cheap Vista C off that website, but it is an Atlantic model. Is this the American version?

Yes its my fault for not asking in the first place, Laughing Out Loud, but on first looking it seems to be a good little bit of kit, not much bigger than my Quest.

Will it make any difference for use out doors in the hills?

What can I expect as a guide if I use, say, Memory Map (25:1 or 50:1) in the Scottish Highlands. Is the internal memory enough for a day out Munroing, say Shiel Ridge...all 7 Munroes.

Have also got the Scotttish Mountaineering Club V2 Contour maps, will I be able to load these as well?

TIA Andrew

I have a Quest 1 with the SMC contour maps loaded, very good for free. Used in Glen Coe and Torridon whilst Munroing.

Apart from the contour maps you have, the Vista C will only accept map data from Garmin programmes such as City Navigator, City Select (now discontinued) or Metroguide.

While it will connect to Memory-Map for transferring waypoints, routes and tracks, you cannot transfer map detail (as you can to a PPC).

The Vista C will autoroute if you unlock CN or CS software to work with the unit. With MG software, hi-res maps only.

The Vista C is limited to its 24 MB of internal memory for map data therefore the bigger "map tiles" from CN will quickly fill it, limiting the area you can upload.

It is a grand little GPS unit, surpassed by its replacement the Vista Cx only in the freedom the use of the microSD card provides. A 512 MB card in the Cx version holds the whole of the UK, Ireland and Holland down to street level complete with full autorouting data from CN 8. Excellent!
