|

Hello,
I've just bought a brand spankin Nuvi 660 and am very happy, except for one thing:
I can't get my mobile to see the 660 or the 660 to see my mobile
I have a Sony Ericcson W850.
I contacted Garmin as It isn't shown on the Bluetooth compatibility list on the website:
http://www.garmin.com/bluetooth/phones.jsp
Garmin said it's not on the list (Thanks for that Garmin) and to check back soon as new phones are allways appearing.
Now, If I've found it doesn't work, does that mean it never will?
or, will I have to wait until an update is available that has some sort of Bluetooth phone update?
Any Ideas?
Thanks. _________________ Nuvi 660, VW GOLF

Have you checked if you have the latest firmware for your 660? Also have you checked that you have the latest firmware for your W850? If you have then you will probably have to wait for an update to one or the other. |

Garmin update the Bluetooth firmware every now and then, so it should become supported. However, I'm surprised (ignoring what the website says) that the units can't see each other...
Presumably your phone has Bluetooth turned on, and set to be visible to all (ie not hidden). Then go into the Nuvi menu and search for the phone - if it's not appearing, that's not got anything to do with whether the Nuvi supports that phone or not - that's the basic Bluetooth hardware saying it can't find the phone.
If it is appearing, then what happens / doesn't happen next?
Finally, can you borrow another phone off a friend - at least that will confirm whether it's the Nuvi or the phone that's causing the problem.
Do come back and let us know the results though. |

Hi,
Can I also suggest that your Bluetooth's not just set to On, but is set to Discover Mode, and as Swing suggested that your Phone's set to Visable!!
Cheers

Just for info, the SE W850i works great with the Nuvi 310D with the 310 running V3.2 S/W. Have you been able to pair the 660 with any other bluetooth phone??? maybe the 660 bluetooth hardware if faulty. Just a thought.

Hi,
I've finally managed to get it working.
My phone was 'Visible' and I was trying to connect it to 'Handsfree' in Bluetooth settings.
I switched it to the 'Hide phone' then back to 'Show phone' and tried it again. all of a sudden, the two found eachother.
Then the 660 Froze completely. I managed to re-set it, tried again, found eachother and then froze. On the third time, it worked!
Works fine now.
Very strange, but all sorted now.
Cheers guys.

Hi see-ell,
I also have a 310D and W850i working well together but cannot export the contacts from the phone to the Nuvi. Can you tell me if this worked for you at all please.
For info SMS works great as does call history.
Thanks _________________ Kevinw10000

Hello Kevinw
If by 'export the contacts' you mean can I see my phonebook contacts under 'Phone Book' on my 310D, then the answer is yes. All the bluetooth functions appear to work fine.
On your W850i
Go into 'settings', 'connectivity', 'bluetooth', 'my devices'.
Then select your Nuvi device and select 'more', then select 'services' from the menu.
Does your phone show
Service supported:
Headset
Synchronization
Object push
Handsfree
I guess synchronization and object push are required for phonebook synchronization??? but that is only my guess.
BTW. My 310D is running software version 3.50 and the bluetooth SW version is shown as 2.40
Hope this helps

Hi See-ell
Thanks for the information. I checked the Bluetooth services and all as you described. I have re exported the phonebook and for some strange reason it has worked fine this time :-)

I've also found problems with a W850i (the wifes), in that it doesn't export the phone book correctly or not at all, whereas my nokia works every time. I find that if I disable BT on the nuvi (310D) and then re-enable, it forces the phone to export the phone book correctly. All the settings on the W850i are as mentioned in this thread. It's a solution but an annoying one. |
