Although I'm not going to excuse Garmin's lack of email response to you, can I suggest you ring them - yes, they might take a while to answer the phone, but they do appear generally more responsive to problems on the phone.

I agree, use the phone. It may take around 20 minutes to get an answer but the response is better. I sent 2 emails when my nuvi 350 crashed and have had no reply over 2 weeks later, yet when I phoned the guy gave me his direct email and sent me some files to rectify the problem.
by the way thanks for the advice on not using webupdater, in future I will download the file.

So I was holding the line for 65 minutes. Then I was told the one and only solution for my particular problem is to send in the device. Sad
I got the phone number of the German distributor. But these are not their office hours.
Now I will contact my local dealer.
