TomTom 510 home dock problem

:D Got my first ever satnav unit Saturday - couldn't wait for Maplins to fulfill back orders so got a next day delivery from Easydevices.

Very impressed with the unit but cannot recharge it via the home dock. Crying or Very sad

The green recharging light does come on if I plug in the car charger whilst in the windscreen mount, but I cannot get the unit to recharge whilst in the home dock.

OK, perhaps I haven't quite got the required knack to get the unit to dock with the mounts first time every time (some re-design required here?) but the unit will communicate with my PC via the home dock fine.

Tried to detect a voltage accross the gold plates at the rear of the home dock, but cannot get a read. Does anyone know which pins carry the power and does anyone else have this problem? The recharger itself seems to be OK.

Will be emailing Easydevices this afternoon.....

Did you plug the mains adapter into the home dock ?

Couldn't agree more. Many other USB devices source their poower via the USB cable, so why not the TomTom dock? Idea

One less cable and one less problem.

:D Thanks to everyone for their input, although I can't see that anyone else has suffered my problem!

Have emailed Easydevices and await their response tomorrow. Sounds like a faulty home dock to me. Hope they are happy to replace as required.

I still believe that the TT *10 series docking system is not what I would have expected for such an otherwise, quality device and that the mains recharging should be via the USB cable, if at all possible.

Frankly, I was amazed Surprised

when I realised that the recharger had to be plugged into the home base!!

Talking about docking stations.
The in-car mount, should the 510 positively lock onto it or just "perch"
I got mine yesterday (total virgin Embarassed

) so went for the obligatory drive round.
The mount fell off the windscreen twice, sorted that with loads of gob on the sucker and that final click on the sucker ring; the unit just seem to balance on the mount, or should it click into place?
I'm reading the book at work Embarassed

and it names a "release button" on front, top, middle of unit, I don't mind competing for "dumbo of the month" but what does it release it from?
I don't know enough about it to ask questions about it, but I'm loving my first foray into your world.

the unit doesnt just sit on top of the dock it needs to be clicked into place. Also make sure when you put the dock on your windscreen that the unit clicks twice when you lock it otherwise the unit will droop when you put it on the mount.

It releases it from the docking unit :D

As far as I can see, yes, the unit does click and lock onto the car mount (although the release button doesn't always work just as it should when pressed to release the unit).

However, my TomTom only sort of sits on the home dock and can be just lifted up and away from it without using the release button.

Is this what everyone else finds?
