Hi, apologies if this is a complete newbie question but I couldn't find anything when I searched.
Basically I bought tomtom navigator 5 with tomtom mkII bluetooth receiver for my fujitsu-siemens loox 720 and can't get the receiver to hold a signal. When I try and manually configure and go to 'show gps status' and 'configure' , I only get the choice of tomtom cable gps, nmea gps and other bluetooth gps. If I choose 'other blutooth gps' or 'nmea device', then bluetooth serial port com 6 I get the gps time and spinning disc in the corner. However, the receiver rarely gives a 'valid gps signal'. I've tried leaving it in the open for almost 2 hours and it will get a signal every so often but will not hold the signal for more than a few minutes. The link between the pda and the receiver seems fine as it keeps the spinning disc - it's just the receiver not holding the signal - this happens if i try and use it while driving as well. Is there any way to test if the unit is faulty? or a way to reset it ?
Any help appreciated! - I'm getting very frustrated now! |

Welcome to the forums, what version of TomTom have you got installed on the PDA?, tap the sat strength bars (lower right corner of the display), if it reports anything other than TTN5,21 you need to download the upgrade from www.tomtom.com and install the newer version - Mike |

Thanks for the reply Mike - the version is 5.210. Only got it last week so I presume it's up to date.

In this case, and the fact you have tried it for two hours, I would suggest the GPS unit is faulty, you have communication with the GPS (spinning disk) - if the unit is in true open space, away from buildings etc. then it should acquire a signal faster than the two hours wait. First time you use it maybe upto 25 mins, but after that assuming regular usage I would expect sub 60 seconds from the device - Mike |
