I've tried to load European maps and can't get anywhere.
Last night I selected just France from CD2 and wrote it to the SD. I then decided to load all of the maps on CD3. After Smart ST finished I disconnected the iCN530 and looked to see if I could find a French destination. I kept getting a NavcarCE Error the first line of which reads os_exit()called.
I looked at somewhere in Germany and everything worked fine.
This morning I decided to remove the France maps and load all the maps off CD2 in case being selective was the problem. This just called the machine to lock up as it loaded the maps.
I then removed the SD card, formatted it and tried to load CD2 but I still keep getting the os_exit error when trying to find somewhere in France, and when trying to locate somewhere in Italy I got a Fatal Application Error which required a reset using the button underneath.
Could I have a dodgy CD2?
Any ideas please?
Is there a specific order to loading SmartST on the pc, loading the map CD and connecting and switching on the Navman or can I do it in any order?

What kind of SD card do you have? Perhaps the iCN doesn't like it...
Did you try to use the card with other maps (not from CD2)?

Have got a high speed 1GB card from Play.com

Have again reformatted the SD card and tried to load the maps off CD3 which includes Germany.
Loading the maps takes ages - please can someone post a link to the thread which tells how to transfer directly to a SD card if such a thread exists as I can't find one.
Looking for a place in Germany again leads to a fatal error requiring the reset button to be pressed.
Please can someone suggest why I can't use the European maps.

Hi
Checked out you card from play .com 66 x is not high speed. I run 133 x. I do not think that this is your problem. I have a iCN 510/20, the desk top software is the latest for that type, it may differ from the 530? But to load maps it could not be easer. If you use a card reader it takes a third of the time to upload the maps to your card.
Are you loading to the card or the internal memory?
I have all of Europe & UK on a 1GB card, it works fine.
Are you then selecting the maps when you have the card installed in your iCN.
Regards
DRP

Spoke to Navman who told me a 1GB SD card is too big and I should try a high speed 512MB card such as the Sandisk Ultra.
I have a 256MB Sandisk Ultra card for my digital camera so loaded the maps for France onto this and it all works happily.
Guess I'll have to invest in a 512MB card so that i can load all the maps I need for my holiday.
Also worked out how to load direct using a card reader rather than through the Navman and am amazed at how much quicker it was.

I don't think the size of the card is really a problem, rather the brand. In my iCN 530, i use a standard blue Sandisk 1GB card (no high speed, ultra and so on), with all the maps of western europe, and everything works fine.

I was wary about buying a 512MB card as all Europe won't fit but equally didn't want to buy another 1GB card if that wouldn't work - whilst I can use an SD card with my digital camera I don't take that many photos!
If you recommend the SanDisk basic then maybe I'll go that route - else I guess the SanDisk Ultra would be compatible too.

Can only speak for myself, perhaps I was lucky.
Thus, no guarantee... Wink

Looking at getting a SanDisk SD card but don't know whether to get a Standard blue card or an Ultra II.
Can't find the speeds of the Standard card but see the Ultra II has minimum read/write speeds of 10/9 MB/sec. How do these speeds compare with the 133x that DRP quoted?
Can anyone confirm what cards work in their iCN530 please?

I used standard blue 1gb card on my icn530 with no probs at all, installed maps from all three disks that i wanted using the usb connection.
Brand does make all the difference for memory cards and not just on gps devices. I have a couple of cheap cards that won't work with anything.

I have this problem too, been trying to load the Austria map, sometimes it gets to 16% or 50% then the program just freezes sometimes with an error code 2.

I did get it to load once and it showed as being loaded on the the external memory. When i wanted to change country in the destination menu it only showed uk and ireland......

How do you load the maps using a card reader?

Finally had a 1GB SanDisk Ultra II delivered and it works a treat. Looks like the brand of card is important as others have said.

Lou_m - you load the cards using a card reader by doing the following:
put the SD card in the reader
load Smart ST
select the maps you want to load
choose "Map" from the menu across the top
select "Add to"
select "Add to PC Writer"
The maps will then load onto the card much quicker than if the card is in the iCN. Hope that helps.
