Hi,
I am a 2 day old user so please bear with me!
Bought a nuvi 310d (with eu maps and traffic 12 thing - for £275 i might add- awesome deal on ebay!)
I have downloaded the poi loader but when i connect my nuvi there is nothing - no prompt - nothing, just what is a basic screen with no prompts. Gstart states "no gps connected" when it is.
I cannot even begin to try all the poi stuff when it dosen't even recog my nuvi as connected.
Any thoughts?
Using windows xp - tried with web and norton both off - tried with and without city navigator software on / removed.
Clueless
Please help.

Hi smith-ee,
Looks like replies to a few threads are a bit thin on the ground at present and I have an i3 not a 310, so not much help there. The only thing I can suggest is you e-mail garmin support and explain your problem, which I have done in the past and had a good response from them. Also you will have a one to one via e-mail with one of their techies so you can get on the right track ( pardon the pun ) at least.
Sorry cant be of any more help.
Regards....Dil _________________ ***************************************

David,
I had a similar initial problem with my new C510D until I uninstalled my old Garmin StreetPilot III USB drivers and the POI updater I had downloaded for my wife's i3.
Then plug the gadget in and Windows did its thing - found new hardware etc etc.
Then downloaded the latest POI Loader from garmin and, as they say, voila!
Hope that helps. |

Hi,
Thanks so far
I have just uninstalled the two garmin usb drivers (hd & sd card drivers) using device manager.
I then uninstalled poi loader.
Next I connected my nuvi and let windows find it etc (new hardware installed and ready to use)
Then re-installed the poi loader from where it was saved.
...but alas exactly the same. |

I should add that windows does recognise the two drives no problem and I have already put some mp3's into the drive which are fine.
It;s just the poi loader i can't get to work - gstart states "make sure the gps is not being used by another application" but I can't see how it can be. |

Smith-ee
I've just plugged in my 510 (which I guess is pretty similar to the 310??) I have a separate icon for POI Loader on my desktop (not the gstart one).
When I run it - it looks a bit like a Windows Install window excpet it's called POI Loader and it searches for/offers a Find Device button. Once clicked it shows my 510 as a removable drive H:\Garmin. That's how the 510 works (as a removable hard drive as far as Windows is concerned).
The next page offers the Browse for POI files and then off you go.
Are you getting the Find Device bit? gstart does NOT find my gps either - so I have disabled it and ignore it.
I also find that Mapsource doesn't find the GPS like with my old StreePilot III, but I can create favs and stuff and then load to the H:\Garmin removable drive - like it says in the manual. Don't know if the 310 is the same but ....?

Really appreciate the help
I don't even get as far as the find device screen.
I click on the poi loader icon on my desktop and it starts
...but all i see is a kind of splashscreen - with poi blue graphic occupying the whole of the left hand side , some text at the top explaining what poi loader is but nothing else. There is "next" button or find device... well nothing at all.
really perplexed. |

Smith-ee
The POI Loader Setup file I have is POILoader_20 which when run gives a POI Loader program of 3,916KB date 16/12/2005 at 09:33.
I can e-mail you a short word document with example screens shots if that helps? PM me for an address.

Eureka!
I was messing about in the programs properties and decided to run the program in maximised window, not "normal" and ...there it is the "next" button".
Weird!! but looks like i'm up and running. |
