The lazy dog is me - I find it easier to ask an expert than ferret out info that I do not fully understand anyway.
The point of this topic is : when I connect my (wife's) I3 to the computer is it possible for me to :

a: read what files are stored in the Garmin

b: transfer the mapping & routing software to computer so that I can test run routes using the computers power rather than plod along at the Garmin 'View Route' pace.

I have installed v2.9 (when first released) plus the latest SpeedCams - I have experienced absolutely zero problems. The thing is totally reliable, extremely fast (detect 'off route' in 25yds) to be honest I cannot really think of a sensible improvement I could wish for.

best regards - Matrix

Welcome to the Forum Matrix,

(a) You can read/write/modify your favorites, software at http://www.easygps.com/download_xp.asp
You can read/write/modify your startup screen, software at http://www.garmin.com/software/xImage_23.exe

Detailed instructions on the above software use is on the forum.
You can with a card reader read/write/modify the data held on the card if your unit has been supplied with one (this is not for the average user to experiment with other members have modified some of the sound files)

(b) afraid you cant do what you ask for Crying or Very sad .

Your lucky and in the minority with your 2.9 firmware most have had nothing but problems with 2.9,3.0 and 3.1
Think twice before upgrading if you system is working ok

Sorry, but you can't do this on the i3. Crying or Very sad

Many other Garmin models (Quest and StreetPilot) come with maps on DVD though and with one of these units you can plan routes (with multiple via points), review track logs of where you have been, add/change/delete waypoints and upload new maps.
