TomTom 5 and Acer N35 ?

I have a wired tomtom 5 and want get the cheapest PDA with built in GPS reciever. The Acer N35 seems to be going for the least amount on ebay.

Will it work.

And does anyone have any other suggestions.

It will work, but its not the best of GPS units due in part to its age. I appreciate cost is a factor in your choice but have a look at the two alternates I have listed below, they both use the revised SiRF-III GPS chipsets.
MIO-A201 - certain problems with loss of device ID leading to problems with activation codes with TomTom, my main concern with this device is the rotating GPS antenna, is it sturdy enough for practical useage?
Imate PDA-N Built in SiRF-III GPS, and you get Wi-Fi/ Bluetooth, the downside (there always is one) screen size is slightly less than three inch, but very sharp.
There are other units avail these days, I just picked these two as they appear to be the lower costing devices. - Mike

The new ones, whether it is GPS, PDA or whatever, are always better but the cost difference is considerable, for some!

Acer N35 and Mio168 (and the clones) are capable of giving satisfactory results.

Sure, some will consider that the price difference is not all that big, and it that case, you should get the new ones.

Acer N35 is ok but the patch antenna is very flimsy and you could brake it easily I wouldn't recommend it unless you were to buy an external antenna which you can get on ebay for under £15

it all depends on ur needs and cost factor u can spend on a gadget ( in my case at least, what my spouse's perceived ideas on the topic )

now as for acer n35 it had been there for sometime, and if u use only for naviagation it is not the best!
but if u want use it as a pda by the side then it is mediocre by todays standard. BUT, it will do it s job!
ofcourse u can experiment with it if it is first gps-pda!

it is sturdy, mine had a quite a few falls and survived, but the last one may have given it a bitof a concussion?

now it has a intergrated antennae which has worked for me for quite some time.
the atennae is for me sturdy enough, yes ofcourse u need fewer 7-8 sats for a good fix to mapping and navigation. it wil give u 4-5 sat fix very quickly in my opinion. and durabilty of antenna depends on the job u do as well! if u r a sales rep going all over with frequent stops then i cannot tell u. so far to my knowledge no body mentioned of a broken antenna!

acer n35 has at least in initail models had a mother board problem. if u look in the forum deep enough u will find those posts. i hope they have corrected by now.

i donot know about others, but acer euro seem to slow in reply, but they do reply in the end!!!

if u have warranty then for 1 year u r covered (well except for the screen)

basically it is an entry level pda with gps medium sized not power hungry (since slower chip)
but destinator nav is a crap!
i got fed up after sending me wrong ways and then telling me ur on the wrong way do a u turn on dual carriage ways!!!
i was fine with tt5 after getting help from pgps on how to get it right!

finally it is up to u what to buy
