You don't seem to have read my PM replies!
Quote: | Is there a way of downloading from mapsource (with indexing and map build etc.) straight onto the microSD card without using the i3? |
All my replies and my postings say 'use card reader'.
Use the card reader to delete the previous map sets and clean up the SD card.
A card reader transfers data to a SD card far quicker than my iQue 3600 does. The transfer is quick, the 'Building Map Index' is the slow process! |

Ok, thanks. Apologies have been reading stuff from all over and got confused! I think I may have a slight dodgy card reader as I have had problems with it.
To write to card reader from Mapsource, do I just send to it as the destination, and Mapsource will treat it exactly as it is in the i3 (only quicker as you say)?
Will try again tonight.
So I willdo the following steps:
1) select maps 2) use mapsource 'send to gps' button 3) select the drive that represents the card reader, which contains the blank 1Gb MicroSD card (which is definatley blank) 4) click on send.
If I can make this part of the process work, the rest should be OK.
I'll tell you how I get on.
Thanks,
Chris |

Going back it time [6months] I was also failing to load 1GB cards with large MapSets!
There are two kinds of card reader, the old, and the new v2!!
Once I bought and used the new quicker v2 Card reader there were no problems [cost less than £15] |

Hi again,
Whe you say v2, do you mean running USB 2.0?
The one I have been borrowing from work is labelled as running on USB 2.0, but may be a bit shakey for other reasons....
How about this as an option?

or otherwise could you post link to your reader?
Thanks,

steer clear from these. they seem to have some reliablity probelems.
I presume you are using the transflash adapter that came with the card and then plugging it a sd reader. Is it the reader or the adapter that is faulty? _________________ i3 2.70(went to 2.82,3.0,3.1 but downgraded) with V8 map on microSD card

OK, thanks, noted to avoid these.
Yes using microSD to miniSD adaptor. Pretty sure the adaptor is fine. The reader just doesn't seem very robust. I have to unplug and reconnect to get it to pick up the card (and that is not always successful) and it slows the entire machine down when its reading.
I found this, half price. Looks a bit cheapo, but then, well -its cheap! Its a 5minute walk to an Argos from my house too, and they're open late on a Thurs.

Wouldn't normally buy IT equipment from Argos (!), but just want to get this thing working! Also, amazingly (and unfortunately) the work card reader I've been borrowing is in demand at work so need to keep bringing the stupid thing in and taking it home again! |

Go for the Argos one, cheap and chearfull, no postage and you can always take it back and as the advert says, you can save time by reserving it online. _________________ i3 2.70(went to 2.82,3.0,3.1 but downgraded) with V8 map on microSD card

Gentlemen,
I'm pleased to report that last night I managed to make the process work! I used my cheap card reader from Argos (£7.50 well spent I have to say, as it worked extremely well and fast especially using the included driver CD).
As per Strumble's advice, I avoided using the i3 at all until the microSD card was complete.
Otherwise followed process as it was written.
I now have fully indexed auto-routing for Northern Spain and the whole of France ~350Mb + 45Mb (I think from memory) for Indexing, and more importantly a tested robust process.
So, my thanks to you all for your support. Now I'm just looking forward to my trip and testing it out!
Cheers again,
Chris |

I am glad you have got the end result you wanted.
It was long winded but very satisfying.
It will be a lot easier next time round
Well Done !!
The same process can be used with any unlocked Metroguide maps _________________ i3 2.70(went to 2.82,3.0,3.1 but downgraded) with V8 map on microSD card
