In the settings of the i3 there's a section to select the battery type, and I've selected NiMH thinking that this is for rechargeble batteries.

Is this correct, do the batteries recharge, is there a battery indicator to show the charge remianing ?

I believe that the i3 will take rechargeable batteries but it does not recharge them itself. If you run on the power lead then it will take its power from there, otherwise if on batteries it will run for between 6 to 8hrs. I`m sure someone will correct me if I`m wrong though!

Regards.......Dil

Dilcymro is correct. I believe the reason Garmin give you an option for rechargeable batteries is that they tend to die quickly when they are on their last legs, where as normal batteries will die slowly - hence the Garmin can estimate how much time you're likely to have left whilst on battery power.

I'd not use NiCads in the i3 since they really aren't high drain... It's like running it on normal Lead Acid or Low Drain Alkalines rather than the high power Alkalines (Duracell M4 etc)

Rule of thumb... if the packaging says the battery is suitable for walkmen and digital cameras, then they should be ok for the i3...

There isn't a recharge option on the i3, but the battery level indicator is a lot more accurate if you let the unit know its working from NiMHs

Normal disposable batteries put out 1,5 Volts, the rechargable types only output 1,2Volts, so the selection lets the unit know the correct type to be able to indicate the remaining power within the cells - Mike
