Loox 600 getting it to work

After mentioning to a friend about the mio a201 we have been given a f.s Loox 600 (work supplied him with one so no longer required) but dont seem to be getting anywhere with it, we have the unit and copilot gps plugs into the top of the pda. Sorry bout the lack of techie terms but this is really new to us and we dont know where to start looking to solve/ get it working. Also it has been lying in a drawer for some time now.

What we have done so far is to search for satalites both inside the house and got none so took it into the car and drove about and it seemed to find something and reported back the position but it was wrong and told me less than 1 mile to destination, so i tried driving to see what happened and nothing did except it started looking for the position again but finding nothing. In the house it shows the longitude and latitude but no satalites also i see the bluetooth switch on the side but cant find it in the unit and neither can my phone and i could get the i.r to work with my phone either.

Some about going on as i tried to give as much info as possible to see if anyone could please possibly nudge me in the right direction to get this up and running.
