innacuracy and bad sat signals in central London

newbie here, to both here and GPS, so forgive me if I go over already trodden ground or say something that makes me sound like an idiot!!! Confused

Bought my Tom Tom GO500 about a month ago. Its been great. Used it all over the southern counties and East London.

However, driving through Croydon on Friday night, it was directing me up one-way streets, and central London on Saturday night was just horrific. The time you need it most, the signal was constantly lost, I was literally going around blind. Trying to send me down one-ways, no entrys and everything.

I am really disappointed as for me having it available for that type of driving in citys is a major buying point.

Any comments gratefully received. Oh, just incase you need to know, I have App. 5.440 Great Britain Plus Map v571

have not had any problems with signal other than in London? I would have thought it would be good there, or is it buildings etc blocking?

The unit needs to be able to see satelites in the sky - the more the better. The Urban Canyons in London (and Croydon) block the view, giving the problems you have.

I wonder whether an external area would make a lot of difference, given that the building are pretty impenetrable to the weka satelite signals, but would bow to those that have tried and succeeded.

maybe a reradiating aireal would help or get a on of the new x10 range

gradually getting lost here, and thats without the GPS......... Laughing Out Loud

Okay, so possibly an external antenna would help.

Any good websites for them? Reccommendations?

What car are you driving?

I often drive in and around Croydonia and have no trouble
with my TTG3...

Lowest i have ever noticed was '3 bars' and that's rare....

Could be your windscreen is blocking? Could be your location
within the windscreen that is not helping?

what car? A very old 1989 BMW 318i, no heat reflective screen. Croydon was bad with the mapping too, but thats nothing to do with the signal.

will look into external antenna. If it might improve it then its worth a shot.
