Well I have had my 910 for a few hours, here are my first thoughts

I have been using SatNav systems for many years, becoming a fan of TomTom back with the launch of TomTom2 on the PDA, I have stuck with them through the years, good and bad,

I recently sold our 3 TTOnes to upgrade to 910s on release (We are based in the UK and US, over 120k miles each on the road) so it was a good investment even at the price of the 910s

Here are my first thoughts based on my own experience

In The Box, Nicely presented, and a real bonus to find a carry bag for the unit in the box, nice one TomTom not to make it an option, the new Code card with embossed codes like a credit card should cut down on the fakes being sold, the box is packed to the gills, everything checked in in baggies!, US Mains adaptor with UK & Europ clips ons again a nice touch

Switched the unit on, and it wass stuggling to get a lock, checked the map selection and it was set for the US Map as standar Bit of a DOH! for European shipped units, as soon as it was switched to Euro it got a lock straight away, maps seem much updated, Mansfield New Roads missing from V605 are now on V650 they were opened about 6 months ago.

Screen seems clear and crisp but a bit of a let down in the car, not as bright as the TTone, and with a lot of reflections again not seen on the One,

Love some of the new features, the Navigate to Lat/Lon is a bonus

The New Comuter voice is great and deals with road names well, although a nice touch to leave old Jane on there for people who prefer the old system,

Linked with my phone no problem Sony V800, (The TTone would not work with this phone),

The TTHome is a nice idea, being aboe to browse maps and save data from your PC screen is great, I have not spent much time delving into it yet.

The Mount for car use is appaling!!! Really abysmal, its tough to clip the unit in and it droops under the weight of the 910 even when double clicked tight, hit a few bumps and you are adjusting the mount, and thats new I dread to think with some wear, I can see a modded unit being needed very soon!

The Google Earth type maps when you zoom out are a nice touch, and dont take up a huge amount of space, as they have a section in TTHome I am hoping it may be possible to download higher detail ones eventually,

I think the MP3 playback is a nice feature, some may not use it, but for me its a boon, I have to drive from Las Vegas to Reno every month, 7 hours and 6 of them with no FM radio coverage, AM Talk Radio can lead to suicide!, So this is a real bonus to have 12Gb of audiobooks or MP3s to use,

Not sure I will sue the buddy features etc, but will hold my judgement on those,

Slow Screen Refresh, if you enable Speed Cameras, it adds every camera category in Europe to the POIS to display list and the screen refresh goes down the pan (About 1 update every 2 seconds!), as soon as you untick them from display and leave them as warn when near only, the refresh rate is back to 10 per sec nice and smooth, TomTom should really have made it a by country option,

So Far I give it 8/10 features seem nice, maps are updated and well implemented, loads of included stuff, rather than expensive add ons

Lets downs seem screen brightness and reflections compared to TTone, and the really appaling Car Mount that I am sure will be under recall within weeks!,

Will update as I play more,

Anyone with questions feel free to ask

Cheers

Richard

Though obviously far superior in most respects, it seems from your photos that the mapping's still even worse than the Garmin i3 for Ireland which, although only showing main roads in rural areas, does have street-level mapping for Ennis.

Like Flashyphotos I'm very impressed with the amount of accessories supplied, there should be you need to buy anything.

The USB connection / data transfer seems a little slow, I'm not sure if the GO is USB 1 or 2, but it took 45 minutes to copy the 7Gb from the internal hard drive to my PC.

Nokia N70 phone is not fully supported only Handsfree & Wireless data, no phone book or DTMF phone pad.

o2 XDA Mini S is fully supported.

Map errors seem to have been corrected.

The one thing I haven't found and surprises me, is there appears to be no integration with my Outlook contacts, ie no way of loading contact into the GO which is a shame.

As yet I haven't been out on the road, but so far the UI looks very similar to the standard TomTom range.

48 mins on my unit via USB 2, but that is a large amount of data to transfer.
Quite happy with the phone connections via the SPV-C600 it works fine - better with the external microphone (supplied)
Also the MP3 player side of things is great, the music you want but paused/ interupted for a navigational prompt or warning of camera etc. - (once you load the music of your choice on to the device, and with over 10GB to play with thats a lot of music) with a couple of impending oversea trips that I have to take soon the full Europe and USA will be of major benefit - less devices to carry :D

Is it only my unit that wobbles, when placed on a table it doesn't seem to sit flat, rocks.

Security has been implemented, but is well hidden and not documented anywhere. Not sure how it is working, but you are able to enter name and address whilst the unit is not attached to the cradle. To enter the security pin number the GO must be connected to your PC, but I'm not sure where the PIN is stored either on the PC or on a TomTom WEB service somewhere.

Routing has changed, this is a little concerning, all previous versions of TomTom (V1-V5) all directed me left out of my road to work, the 910 wants me to turn right... Not good news....

That's part of the new design. I found that by using the connector half of the windscreen mount as some kind of stand it becomes much more stable.

Flasyphotos how did you get your planning to work with the home software.

I have my 910 connected via USB and on, and can connect to it via home and with explorer.

It shows that the 910 has satellite imagery for, europe, USA, Australia however when i go into planning/my device it just says connect the device using a USB cable and turn it on. And i have a tomtom with a blank screen.

Running version 1.1

Cheers for any help.

Regards

Peter

"turn it on" = press the icon for the device on the lower left.

Yep, unit is turned on and the 910 shows that that it is connected.

In the home software i click the my device on the bottom left and it asks me to select device which i do it then asks me to check for updates.

However the screen does not change it just says please connect your tom tom device using a usb cable and turn it on.....

Have you clicked the "virtual" power on/off switch on the PC screen, top LH of the unit (same place as the hardware version). Mike

Assuming you pressed the YES button on the TomTom unit when asked "Do you want to conect to computer" have you got the device cabled direct to the PC rather than though a multiway hub? - I have experianced problems with my hub at times on different units - Mike

If you press No then the computer doesnt see the 910 period, i currently have the USB plugged directly into the PC, tried 2 different sockets and no joy.

Funny how the software works with everything else, ie deleting poi's etc etc and i can explore the 910's hard drive via control panel so the device is definately being seen by the computer.
