I currnetly use an ipaq 4150 housed in otterbox 1900, connected to an old rikaline 9537(leadtek) bluetooth GPS receiver. and use memory map navigation software.

ive been experiencing bt connection loss in the hills of the UK during cold windy weather (ie -20 with wind chill, -5 ambient) both devices are well protected from the elements, and kept close to body. altitude approx 3000ft.

is it the weather?, as connection seems to be lost after a strong gust. (seems unlikely to me) battery status. probably around 50-70%? or other problem, such as a software glitch.
im considering buying a new gps ie globalsat sdio, as i need reliability. will this also extend usiage time due to not running bluetooth?

i have no problems with the equipment when using copilot 5 in the car.

Not too sure about the weather theory, and at those temperatures it should work OK as you have it in protection.

What I would like to comment on is battery usage, if you turn off the Bluetooth and fit a CF or SDIO GPS to the unit it will draw power from the PDA, the chances are this will be more than the BT used to be, so you could reduce battery power time going down this route (probably not by much though).

Before you go down this route check whatever GPS unit you intend to get will phsically fit into the OtterBox (there are a couple of different add on GPS pods for the 1900 case, I converted mine to a high capacity battery box though). Mike
