If you are unsure whether or not to upgrade to PC2003 then I would suggest it is well worth doing, at least on an iPAQ 5450.
Using the same route that is used on the TTN thread "Route Calculation Time....", that is Land's End to John O'Groats, the route calculation time has dropped from 11 seconds (PC2002) to 7 seconds (PC2003). :D
Another function that shows noticeable improvement is the map re-draw time when zooming in/out or panning. |

And the speech problem (occasional crackle/slowdown/slur) appears to be fixed. This problem on PC2002 gave the impression that the iPAQ was sometimes overloaded and didn't have enough processing capability but with the faster operating system the problem has disappeared. |

That is interesting. I have kept my 5450 at ROM 1.10 as It didnt work with my WiFi set up at 1.11. I may now review that and upgrade.
Only thing is I still need a PPC2002 system for testing.
I assume that although the crackling has gone (which I dont experience) that they have done nothing for the volume issue. _________________ Mike Barrett |

Volume is no different.
With PC2002 I had difficulty connecting using WiFi until I took the battery out for 2 seconds and replaced it (and I have occasionally had to repeat that procedure). With PC2003 I had the WiFi up and running in no time and using the internet is so much faster. I don't know if it is the WiFi connection that is faster or the screen re-draw but it is noticeably faster. |

(HP3970 running copilot 3.5UK)
Just upgraded from PC2002 to PC2003 last night, and there is a noticeable speed increase.
I timed a route calculation form London to John O'Groats two or three times each way to get an average; was approx 26-28 secs before upgrade. After the ROM was updated the same route came down to 15-18 secs. A good 10 secs quicker. Map redraw is also quicker when zooming in and out.
I would recommend upgrading, but some people might grudge the £40 fee
PC2002 is clearly not optimized for the X-scale processor, but PC2003 does help move things along faster. You just wonder if it's still not running to its full potential. |
