|
|
Having had to cancel my intention to drive through Spain this summer, I now have no use for the Iberian Peninsular SD card which I bought earlier this year. I would therefore like to sell it (e.g. on ebay). However does anyone know with certainty that it will still be capable of use in any other i3 unit, having been first used in my own i3. Although I didn't need an unlock code to use it in my unit, I have seen it suggested that maybe the card is somehow locked to the serial number of the first device it's used in. Unlikely I think but best to check first. I did phone Garmin but I'm somewhat less than confident of the accuracy of their reply.
Can anyone help? |

i believe the mapping is locked to the micro sd card not to any sat nav...you might own an i3 and a 60csx , both accept cards and as there is no info on the garmin site saying the card will work in one gps only, i would be 99.9% certain the card is interchangable with other sat navs.... the only way to be absolutely certain is to try it in another i3... _________________ *************************** |

I think you're right zogman. After all software protection of whatever form is only there to stop piracy not to curtail the existence of a legitimate secondhand market.
Unfortunately I don't actually know anyone who has an i3 otherwise trying the card in their unit would be the obvious way to go.
I have emailed Garmin for confirmation but if past experience is anything to go by this doesn't always elicit a response. |

At last! A reply email from garmin. Apparently my Iberian maps SD card can be inserted into any i3 so it is currently up for offer on ebay. |
