I am struggling to purchase the following. Having upgraded to an MDA Vario from T Mobile, all I want is the TT5 Navigator software, with UK regional maps, on a mini SD card...I already have the blue tooth receiver. Seems to me to be impossible, without the BT receiver.

Totaldpa can supply you with TomTom pre installed onto a SD card, you can then copy that to any other memory card.

Just ask for TOMTOM NAV5 UK SD and ACTIVATION

Thanks..had to call them for the product code (6073) as blowed if I could find it ! Tell me Steve...what would you recommend as an existing HP Pocket PC user of TT5 ? Copy my existing SD card on to the mini to see if it works ? I don't really want to have to fork out £85 + vat if I can avoid it !

If you already have a legit copy of tomtom 5 for PPC you can copy the card onto your mini SD card and it will work (just don't change any file structure.)

Thanks...bit more help please. I went on to TT, and downloaded the TT Mobile5, (wasn't sure what the difference was between Mobile and Mobile 5) application onto my mini SD card and moved the GB Plus map over from my regular SD card. Couple of things...I cannot 'tap' the screen for the various prompts...hence cannot go online to put in the product/device code etc. (This is to run on a T Mobile Vario...the MDA with the slide out keyboard) Also the TT logo has not shown up in the program list, although I imagine that this happens after activation ? Mike.

It is TomTom 5 for PPC you need not the mobile phone version. If your PDA is the same as below the mobile version will not work, the mobile version is designed for smartphones like Nokia N70 (symbian) or the Windows smart phones.

Thanks for the quick response...not that one, the Vario keyboard slides out from the side...I'd send you a picture, but not sure how to do that....(at my age!)

Oh right, thanks. I'll uninstall then and download the PPC version. I think my confusion stems from the fact that it's sold as a Windows Mobile 5 device ...hence I assumed that it needs the TT mobile application. I'll try again !

It is a easy mistake to make, check on their website as i don't think TomTom fully support your device.

Just been out for a ride ...your right...every thing looks well set etc., but no signal....shame, as I had to register the device number again etc. on TT's site. Ah well, back to my trusty IPAQ....hopefully, I will still be able to upgrade to V6, if and when , and haven't screwed everything up! Thanks again, Mike.

Hmmm...strange...just went on TT site to enquire as to when the MDA Vario will be approved and it's already on the list ! Any ideas ? My TT settings, using an Arkon all in one holder/device, are 'Other NMEA gps', '4800 baud', and 'Serial cable on Com 1. (same as my IPAQ.)

That PDA does not support a physical serial connection, it can only take serial over Bluetooth. You would need to get a Bluetooth GPS receiver to get GPS.

Jeez !! if it's not one thing, it's another !! I really appreciate you taking time out to assist with this one...and I thought I was doing the right thing, and it was going to be dead easy, by upgrading my phone etc ! From what I've read then, a Sirf 3 device is the best way to go...next, and final question then (?) is, which one ? (And I'll send you an order right now for your help !) Regards, Mike.

I currently use the Holux 236 which is SiRF STAR III. It has a good review on this site if you do a search. What i like about it apart from getting a great signal is the fact it has a removable battery (this means you can get a spare battery (cheap) and if the battery dies after a year or so you simply replace the battery rather than buy a new one). They are others like the TomTom MK II which is supplied with the software, which gets a good lock but no removable battery.
