I have searched the database but I cant find the actual answer to this. I understand you cant add or edit the built in POI's but is it possible to delete them? and if you can which file do they live in?
Some of the POI's have very little relevance for the UK, eg. Border Crossing. I am aware that TT5 can only manage 39 POI categories and what I would like to do is delete some of the built in POI's that I personally have no use for and replace them with ones that I do find useful.
At present the POI's that are mine live on my CF card and work fine, if I can delete the built in ones do my ones then gradually replace the built in ones presuming of course that I do not exceed the 39 rule category.

You can delete the POI.DAT file but you won't gain anything from it (apart from the freed up storage memory). The 39 custom categories limit will still be true.

You can cook your own POI.DAT but that's rather an advanced topic.

Thanks for the quick reply Lutz. I understand I wouldnt be gaining anything, all I wanted to do was delete the built in poi's that I felt were not wanted and replace them with poi's of my own. Is it as simple as going to the POI.dat file and deleteing them from there and then replacing the poi's in the same place?

Does anyone know if a poi.dat file has been recreated, that fixes all the locations of the standard TT poi.dat, because some of the locations in the standard file are miles out?

not sure I understand your question, but there is certainly a potential for "healing" when you re-pack a broken POI.DAT file.

The info on this page was exactly what I wanted. A method of either removing the TT in-built categories, or overriding them. This little script has allowed me to modify the poi.dat file and include my own POI files. Excellent.

I've created my own (pretty big) POI.dat file, using (more accurate/up-to-date) POIs from a number of sources. I would post it here, but I'm sure I'd be stepping on someone's toes due to copyright issues. It's not that difficult to create your own POI.dat file, so just download the POIs on this site and others and cook up your own version!
