Hi Just wanted to post this quick message regarding my new Bluetooth GPS.
Having tried the Sysonchip following the reviews on this page and to be fair finding it excellent at fttf and its ability to not drop out like some, i thought I was on to a winner BUT, it was no good for hiking as it appeared to show the Static navigation feature unusable for hiking, i.e. it showed my position on Memory May as 50+ metres behind where I was currently stood, rendering it totaly useless for hiking. I had of course tried the several bits of software on offer to turn off SN but to no avail, I returned it and got a full refund.
And now the main reason for this post, which I wanted to submit as a way of giving back to a GPS site which has been brilliant to me, I have read with great interest all of the reviews and was undecided as to which BT GPS I was going to replace the Sysonchip one with. I toyed with the idea of maybe the Holux GPS slim but was not happy with the post's I had seen regarding poor FTTF and the even poorer attention that Holux GB were giving to this problem with just a few replied from Holux and then all quiet.
So I went for the GlobalSat BT 338 and tried it last evening on a small route and WoW I mean WOW what a difference it tracks my position with 10 sats all the time, did not drop out once and the position was bang on all of the time I was walking, So I have posted this purely for the benefit of other Hikers who maybe wondering which one to buy. This is the one.
HTH

Had you considered switching Static Navigation off on the Sysonchip? _________________ Lutz

That would mean they had hard wired the SN function - not exactly a smart move.
Glad you found a better device. _________________ Lutz

Thanks Bedlin for your input though, I just want to let any other frustrated hikers know that the global sat works brilliantly, as it has caused me loads of frustration trying to find one suited to hikers and not motorists, I am also the proud owner of a navman, which I use for motoring, so I,m not against car gps units. :D |
