Just been reading about the new Go's - have I missed the navigator announcement (or is it the end of the line)?

No announcements as yet, but V6 is at least a rumour, if not yet an actuality.

Have they got any other announcements due at Cebit?

If they haven't I guess that's it for pocket pc / palm users.

This wouldn't surprise me for these reasons - profit/development/support for them would be much lower and when looking for a new pda recently I reaslised that there ain't many new models about - rumour is dell is pulling out and either Hp are to (or have basically all ready).

When Navman introduced the iCN520, with SmartST 2005, no mention was made of a PPC version, nor even a version to update the 6xx series. However, the 6xx series arrived (I have it on my iCN635) and then the PiN570 (PPC) turned up. Some time later, a version for existing PPC V3 users also arrived.

Navman's policy appeared to be to get it working on the new products first then to filter it down to the rest of the range. I fully expect the release of TTN6 to folow a similar pattern.

I guess not - as we appear to be relying on navmans upgrade strategy to be adopted by tomtom.

If they said nothing about time frames for the pda version it either suggests 2 things - they want us to buy Go units (and will then announce the pda version) or there will be no pda version.

I'm still inclined to think the later is more likely - unless they did make an announcement - if so I will likely go with a 510 (if european maps are available straight way) or 910 as I have used the ONE unit a lot and it does all I need (in the UK) and performs excellently with no hassle.

There will be v6 upgrade releases including Mobile and PDA. As for timescales and upgrade programs, we do not have any details at this stage.

This is great new. I have been enjoying getting lost with my new TomTom v5 software for my pda. Looking forward to v6 and all the updates.

That is intentionally getting lost .. Laughing Out Loud

thanks for the info on tt v6. i really want some gps software/bluetooth receiver for my axim x50 and tt navigator 5 seems like the best to me. i'm thinking of getting the kit that includes the mkII receiver (sirfstar III, small, good performance, but you guys already know that). any idea how much the upgrade to v6 will be or if there will even be one (i know no one knows but any educated guesses)? i guess a better question is how much was the upgrade from v4 to v5? thanks again for all the great info.

I'd go for the v5 kit as you have described. TomTom always offer heavily subsidised upgrades to new versions so there is little point in waiting and the BT unit is a good one.

I believe the upgrade was just short of 60 Euros, but if you had purchased v4 three months or sooner, the upgrade was free.

Was v3 as there was no v4 on general sale.

hey guys, thanks for the quick responses, i think i'm going to order it from amazon tomorrow ($265 shipped). not to hijack the thread, but is there anything that the mkII does not have or do? i have done some research and read all the reviews i could find (there is a lot of info out there) and the only thing that i might not like is the auto off after 10 min. this is going to be my first gps so i don't know everything to look for, but tt5 seems to be a good place to start. thanks again.

Auto off is a good thing, it only powers off if there is no BT connection to save your battery, it does not power off when connected.

Downsides? It lacks a replaceable battery and it has a Soft ON/OFF switch.

Having said that its the one I use simply because it works well, shares the same power connector as my GO's and PPC's and is small.
