I'm considering replacing my Fortuna Clip-On BT GPS with a GlobalSat BT338, but I have not been able to find any figures for an important parameter for a GPS device used for vehicle navigation - how fast does the GPS report position. In other words what is the time-lag between the psoition in realtime and the position as reported by the GPS device?

For example, my Fortuna has two modes: Sirf II (reports position fast but not so good at getting a fix near high buildings or under trees) and XTrac (gets a fix more reliably but slower at reporting so the time-lag can be a problem when driving).

I expect the BT338 with Sirf III would be more sensitive and perhaps more accurate, but will it be even slower than the more sensitive of the two modes on the Fortuna?

Thanks for any information,
John

Thanks, but that doesn't answer the question!

Both the modes in my Fortuna supply data at the same frequency (once per second is typical), but the more sensitive mode has a much greater time-lag between the position in realtime and the position as reported.

I want to get some information on the time-lag for the BT338.
