Do you know which bit is actually damaged.

1. The connector on the Acer - Possible claim
2. The multiplug that conects to the acer - Try your PC connector
3. The car power connector which connects to the main connector.

Option 2 & 3 you should be able to sort relatively cheaply with a new lead - check ebay.co.uk there is a car charger lead there for 1p at the moment.

Its the daftest design for a car based PDA I've seen! Makes you run it in landscape! My other half's one was ok in her 5 series because it hung over the dash but in a hire car recently it was impossible! Landscape isn't my choice for SatNav but it was the only way without damaging the connector.

Jimbo,

You been out drinking or just got your posts confused. Rolling Eyes

Your responce doesn't relate to the question, and furthermore the Acer N35 does not work in landscape.

Stay off the drink when posting !! Laughing Out Loud :D

Hey cheeky! I gave up both drinking AND smoking in the last 2 months! :-)

I see you're point but you're half wrong, half right.

I am refering to the connecter to power the PDA in the car. Its stupid because it adds about 2.5 inches to the bottom of your PDA and means that if you don't have the convenience of being able to overhang it, you must position it somewhere up around your rear-view mirror!!! (OK I exagerate but you see my point)

And you're correct that N35 doesn't support landscape......... BUT ...... Tom Tom does in the software even on an N35. My GF had a 'mare with Destinator 3 and bought TT Nav5 instead.

So stick that in yer pipe and smoke it! Laughing Out Loud :-)

and the connecter to power the PDA in the car is the same as the one to connet to the PC hence the discussion. Now where's that whisky I hid some weeks ago?

Jimbo was not drinking at all. The n35 does support landscape.

The firmware update to WM2003SE (with landscape support and a from 1MB to 12MB increased ROM-storage) can be found here:
ftp://ftp.support.acer-euro.com/handheld/n35/osimage/

1. update bootloader
2. update osimage

flash instructions:
Please follow the below procedures for n35 image flash.
1.Make sure you have a SD card that can be detected by n35. The SD cards that can be detected are: (1) Apacer 128/256/512MB (2) Toshiba 256MB (3) SanDisk 64/512MB
2.Copy all the OS image files to the SD card’s root directory.
3.Switch the hard reset switch to the left, and insert the SD card.
4.Make sure the AC is applied to n35.
5.Press and hold the power button, then switch the hard reset switch to the right.
6.The LCD screen will become all white. Release the power button after 5 seconds.
7.Wait for an orange progress bar to appear. (It might take about 3 minutes).
8.n35 will reboot itself when flash is done.

Note: if you fail to have an orange progress bar when flash, please make sure you have correctly copied all the necessary image files, and then repeat from step 3.

How do you change from portrait to landscape once the upgrade is done. I bought my N35 lastyear and on checking OS version found it to be V4.2 ; the revision date 24/11/2004; the rom version; 1.40.32; bootloader version: 2.1 This seems to compare with the details of the update but I cannot see where to switch between landscape and portrait.

For landscape you need rom version 2.10.12

Are you creating a hard reset when you follow the instructions therebye losing all the information you have on the PDA?

When you say "copy all the OS image files to the SD cards root directory" is this only from the n35_sdv1.40.32_wwe.zip?

All data will be deleted by flashing the PDA.
My advice would be not to perform the flashing, if you are not 100% certain what you are doing.

First you have to update the bootloader. So copy the SD-folder-files of n35_SE_Eboot 6.2.rar to the root of the SD-card and perform the flash.
Second you can update the OS. Copy the files of n35_SE_v2.10.12_WWE_SD.rar to the root of the SD-Card and perform the flash.
