CeBIT 2006 is fast approaching and the jungle drums are already beginning to beat. We'll avoid adding to some of the conjecture in the absence of hard evidence but what is certain is that GPS will be an even bigger part of the exhibition than it was last year and will once again be dominating Hall 11.
However, we have heard of a British designed GPS chipset that is claimed to surpass SiRFStarIII in terms of performance, details are few and far between but if its true it may make the promise of indoor GPS a reality.
I'll post the early GPS related press releases and announcements as they arrive over the next weeks and the team will of course be attending CeBIT to report from the show. _________________ Darren Griffin

More than just the right route to your destination: the Mobi-leNavigator 6 takes navigation into a new dimension
With the MobileNavigator6, NAVIGON introduces a new dimension of mobile navigation. The new software comprehensively builds upon the previously available functions and introduces new features. When it comes to service and user experience, the Mobile-Navigator 6 particularly breaks through into a new dimension. As market leader in the mobile navigation sector, NAVIGON had already created an extremely successful product with the previous model, MobileNavigator|5, a product which excelled in user comfort and driver security.
Every user can operate the MobileNavigator 6 in an instant: the navigation experience begins directly after purchase, as all features of the new system can be used for a short distance without prior registration. The new user surface was developed in co-operation with a well-known German institute. The user can then register later after experimenting with the product on a test route.
Get underway faster – get to your destination more safely
Anyone who previously had reasons to decide against the purchase of a navigation sys-tem will now find it extremely hard to find any excuses. The MobileNavigator 6 finally does away with prejudices like ‘complicated’ or ‘unwieldy’. The MobileNavigator 6’s com-prehensive new user surface turns NAVIGON users into pioneers: the user is simply and safely guided through the intuitive operating structure.
Seamless navigation within Europe and overseas
As tempting as the ‘switch on and go’ option is, the MobileNavigator 6 nevertheless al-lows entire travel routes to be comfortably planned in advance. An unlimited number of destinations can be saved before the journey starts and joined together to form a route – even when travelling overseas. The entire Europe map and the complete North America map (USA and Canada) can be used seamlessly for portable navigation down to individ-ual house numbers.

Safety without compromise: reach your destination with clear information
The MobileNavigator 6 combines destination-oriented route planning with service and information. The new “Country Info” function automatically shows the driver the most essential country information on crossing the border: information such as local and na-tional speed limits, the Road Traffic Act, and the legal alcohol limit. If desired, the information can also be accessed separately. This function thus makes a major contribution to safety when driving internationally. More safety is provided by the addi-tional special feature “Lane Assistant”. This function displays all the currently available traffic lanes and shows which lane the driver must choose to follow the desired navigation route. This is especially helpful at complex intersections and in major cities.
Turn navigation into an experience
With the MobileNavigator 6, NAVIGON proves that navigation today can be much more than simply finding the correct route to a destination. MobileNavigator 6 owners will have a lot more space in their luggage in the future: the display’s new 3-D view can even be a replacement for a travel guide, since selected places of interest are shown on the map in three dimensions. More than 2.5 million additional special destinations provide informa-tion about, for example, night life or places to sleep. So the MobileNavigator 6 also enters a new dimension when it comes to leisure activities. The optional feature “Bellevue Route” also shows the user the most scenic route to the chosen destination. This means that the navigation system is an excellent source of inspiration not just when travelling by car, but also on a bicycle or on foot. The “Dynamic Route Info” supplies the user with additional information on the route such as the remaining distance to the destination, estimated time until arrival, cities along the route and selected special destinations. And if the fuel gauge reaches the reserve zone, the driver can see the petrol stations along the route and decide which one he wants to visit.
With the Home Function, the software guides the user directly and comfortably to the saved home address at the touch of a button.

More comfort in traffic with TMC and the optimal route
Navigation is not just safer, more comfortable and a better experience with the Mobile Navigator 6 – it is also more efficient. The “Optimal Route” offers a modern alternative to the previously available options of fastest route and shortest route. This option achieves the perfect balance between saving time and saving petrol, and thus enables efficient route planning. Traffic congestion can be avoided with the TMC function, allowing the user to reach their destination on time. This technology is also available when using a navigation-capable mobile phone. In order to make use of this cost-free function, the user requires a suitable receiver, for example the NAVIGON TMC module or an appliance with integrated technology such as the Transonic 5000 PNA.
Comfortable map creation with CleverMap
The useful CleverMap function, which permits country maps to be created when the user requires them, has been comprehensively expanded using updated current and new map material. With the MobileNavigator 6, map material from a total of 30 European countries is available. A selection of additional maps from newly charted territories is supplied on DVD along with the software and can be activated for a low price.
