Since last night charging my Mitac Mio 168 is impossible either with the cable at home or in car so I guess the pda port has a fault. As a wheelchair user who drives to many meetings in new locations Sat Nav is very important to me and being without it for any length of time is really worrying. I tried to ring Global Positioning first thing this morning only to be told by recorded message that faulty goods reports have to be emailed. This I did and promptly received 2 emails telling me they'll get to me asap. As yet nothing else. The pda is only 5 mnths old and has been operated entirely as instructed. I wish I had bought it locally, then I'd have been able to take it in and hopefully have a replacement supplied!! |

For some reason these people do not want us phoning them if things go wrong & insist that everything is done via email.
With a bit of luck the manager (Catherine) of GPS will see your post & sort it for you as I know from experience that once the manager contacts you she will sort it out in a fair way but you go around the houses getting them to talk over the phone, WHY DO YOU DO THIS GPS.
You can never beat buying locally & if your lucky like me you can buy cheaper than these online stores & have the luxury of taking stuff back in person if it goes wrong.
I hope they contact you soon & phone you. |

That's one of the ways in which large e-tailers keep the costs down.
Sadly you cannot expect rock bottom prices without giving up something else such as after sales support and convenience.
However GloPos are pretty good and I am sure they'll sort the issue out for you. _________________ Darren Griffin - Editor |

GloPos have emailed and asked for the Mitac's serial No so I can have a return No. It'll have to go to Mitac for repair apparently. I just hope they get on with it 'cos in the meantime I'll be back to hoping and praying that my lousy sense of direction and printed directions will get me to my meetings!
Thanks for the words of encouragement! |

They will probably send it back to Comuserve to get it fixed, they are UK based, so you should get it back in a week or so they are normally quick.
Good luck |

Sounds the the charging connection. Same problem mine had at a week old . I had the added bonus of the seller ceasing trading to contend with I had to contact Mio direct (miorepair@mio-tech.be) with my serial number, then get a returns number and send it to Manchester for repair. Mine had to have a new motherboard fitted and it is apparently a reasonably common fault, although supposedly rectified on the later models.
I would have had the unit back within a week, but Mio sent it to a non existent address don't know why as my full address was supplied and was held on file) and it sat in the Parcel Line depot for a week, before being returned to them. They then sent it to the non existent address again and there it stayed until 2 weeks later wen I queried what had happened to it.
Has been fine since though.

I sincerely hope Mark that your experience with Mitac was not the norm! The loss has made me realise how much I rely on technology these days. I hadn't synchronised with my desktop recently either which is a pain. I naively thought that saving to my storage card would allow me to see appointments etc on my desktop - DOH. I always have to learn the hard way! |

To be fair, I don't think my experience was the "norm". They were extremely apologetic about the incident. I still think the turn around time I had wasn't too bad even if it hadn't been "stored" for a few days, much quicker than some other places. I believe they aim for a week from receipt at theirs to return to you.

I have sent my Mio today by registered post and hope it'll be back by the end of next week. I've just returned from an all day meeting which I was late for 'cos I got lost on the way! Fortunately next week's journeys are to familiar locations!! I was defo in the back of the queue when sense of direction was being given out! Ha ha |

My 7 month-ish old Mio 168 suffered similar power connector problems.
I contacted Global Positioning Systems, who rapidly created a RMA for me to send the unit to the repair centre (ComServe). The unit was returned a week or so later with a replacement motherboard..... However, the GPS was non-functioning So I wasn't very pleased! I got back into contact with Global Positioning Systems who asked me to return it to them this time, and today I've received a replacement unit which appears to be working a treat!
This is the second time I've experienced after-sales support and both time the service & help that I received via email from Global Positioning Systems was absolutely first class. So, thanks to Global Positioning Systems especially Ying & Diana (If you read this forum!) for their help in resolving the issue in a fast an efficient manner.
I've got a couple of friends & some family who are in the market for SatNav systems and I will certainly be recommending Global Positioning Systems to them |

That is very encouraging Gork. I sent my Mio off last Thursday so am hoping to get it back soon! I hope it'll work ok but if it doesn't I shan't panic as, from what you've said, Ying or a colleague will sort it. I chose to buy from Global Pos because of all the positive stuff I read on the forums but was initially panicked by not being able to talk to someone. |

Good News! My Mio is back with a new motherboard. Bad News I have lost all my calendar entries! Everything else was back after I reatored it from the storage card but all my appointments are gone. That'll teach me to synchronise regularly and not rely on everything being on the card! Take heed anyone else not doing so! I'll have to contact everyone now and ask if they're expecting me somewhen!!
Well done repairer, you did your bit! |

Silly Me. When I corrected the year, low and behold all my appointments re-appeared! DOH
However, cannot use Sat Nav as I get 'No GPS Device' message after Mio has searched for signal for a while. No idea what to do can someone please help me? Thanks |
