OK! I know that this is the Pocket GPS site and I know that a lot of hard work goes into the speed camera database but I would like some honest opinion as to which database is better, the one that synchronises with checkPOInt or the Pecket GPS one. At the moment I am sticking with the Pocket GPS database.

Hi stevei
Wow, you are getting about. Well, I haven’t heard of the Pecket GPS site so I can’t comment on its quality. But I do know about this checkpoint site and I have found it brilliant. I can’t think of anything bad to say about it, and its free. One doesn’t need to be a boy racer to run foul of the law these days. All it takes is a lapse of concentration for a few seconds as one passes the yellow camera, and flash! Points on the licence and spending money gone,
Checkpoint has saved my pocket and driving licence on more than one occasion and I am thankful for that.

Do you mean the PocketGPSWorld site database? ;) If you haven’t heard of it, then you can see it here. Thumbs Up

The CheckPOInt site for POIs is actually the POIplace website. I don’t know how the POIplace database compares to our PocketGPSWorld database, however I do know that every single entry in the PocketGPSWorld database is manually verified by our camera database administrator, Richard (Oldie).

Regards,

Bo Peep.

Are you sure that they are not the SAME database? Checkpoint is a piece of software that allows download of other peoples POI databases.

I know Oldie does a great job but that sounds like he goes round in his car checking them all out. Wink

Hi Bo Peep
I’m afraid it was just a joke, a pointless joke too. Stevie had accidentally spelt ‘pocket’ as ‘peckit’. I will stay serious from now on.

Not sure. the temp. cameras on the M3 between J4 & J3 (now gone) come up as temp on pocket gps but as 50mph on checkPOInt.

Every single camera update that Oldie receives, he checks its location in mapping software to ensure that the cameras are all on roads and are on the correct position as stated in the communication from the submitter.

Bo Peep.

Hi Stevei
I hope that you now have your Checkpoint working and have tried it out in anger on the road. I have a warning set to come on 20 seconds before the camera but haven’t bothered about a second warning. I suppose that you realize you can save any ‘wav’ sound file to give you the warning. Mine certainly wakes me up if I’m day dreaming 20 seconds before the camera.
As for the single letter spelling mistake saga I hope that we are still friends. Sorry.
