Hi stevei
I cant remember off hand whether checkpoint works with the points of interest turned off. However, I have a feeling that it does. There is one thing that I do know for sure and that is that it’s a brilliant add-on to TT5. If you aren’t sure that its for you, then make a proper backup before you install it.

Don't know about Checkpoint but certainly Tom Tom itself will still warn if you have POIs hidden

The advantage of checkPOInt over the embedded warning is that it gives two wawarnings at different distances, warns you if you are overspeed and is easier to add voices rather than bells or noises, and it is free.

I decided to install it anyway and it still works with the POIs hidden. Very dissaPOInted with the buggy flashing display, it does warn you about the possibility and hopefully will be fixed in a later release.

Yes stevei I forgot to tell you about the flashing display. It bother some people and others ignore it. If you turn on checkpoint and click General Settings you will come up with a screen showing three items. If you take the tick out of the ‘Show Warning Information’ box you will get rid of that annoying flashing. Give it a try.

Trevor1234

In the manual it refers to a tab for repeating the warning every ??? secs. on "section cameras" (specs). I cant see this tab on any overlay settings. Do you know how to display this feature?

Hi stevei
Go to Overlay Settings, Tap on Traffic Cameras, Tap on Section Cameras, Tap 40 (just as an example) so that it highlights the words ‘Section Camera 40’ and then tap on Properties and the screen that then comes up First Warning, second warning etc. This also applies with all cameras. See how you get on.

You can still do this with the inbuilt TomTom system, but it does consume a lot of user avail POI's,
First install the speed camera zoned POI's then load up the single file version, you will need two copies of red-light and Temp for this to work (re-name the files adding something like _2 to the end of the file name NOT the file extension).
For proper warnings I use www.tomtomsatnav.info and the POIExtend utility to increase the number of inbuilt warnings from 15 to 30, this also gives you the option for proper spoken alerts containing the camera type and speed zone where applicable (there are also voices avail from the same site to do this) more importantly it gets rid of the allocated title for each warning, allowing you to make meaningful names for each of the warnings (This alone makes configuring the next bit so much easier).

Then set-up the TomTom Warn when near POI for each camera set, but for the second warning use the single file version OV2 and drop the warning distance to closer to the camera. You get a double warning, no flashing but unfortunatly no continual SPECS speed warning, this will also re-name some of your custom voices (if installed) but this is a minor price to pay -
It works great on my set-up - hope some of you can follow this alternate way to get the same result - Mike

In Overlay Settings i have one directory "Not Synchronized", this expands to show all the diffent types of cameras ie "pocketgps_uk_gatso" etc.

What am i doing wrong?

Hi Stevei
I know that you have installed checkpoint but have you connected to the website and synchronised? You can not proceed until you have done that.

Hi stevei
Once you have set up the checkpoint cameras that you want to use (by putting a tick in the relevant boxes) every time you connect to the checkpoint website and synchronize it will update the type of cameras that you have selected. New ones are added and some are deleted depending on what’s taking place out on our streets. Make sure you only use the cameras and speed settings that you want to use and make sure that you have United Kingdom checked before doing so. Checkpoint has lots of cameras, restaurants, hotels, fast food joints etc but the more you install the slower your PDA may run. So don’t get carried away.
