Hi,

Not sure how much space the maps will take, but i can recommend this SD card:

http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=82393

Where as its advertised as "Viking" its actually a Thoshiba SD card. I tried for days to get a deal better on ebay, but it always went over what ebuyer was selling at.

Hope this helps somewhat

Rgds

You would need a 2GB card for all the Maps of Western Europe. You could get all but 1 or 2 countries on a 1GB card.

It would be a close thing, but probably.

if you have an ipaq 2210 and tt5 for gods sake dont buy a kingston 512 or 1 gb card.

tt5 forgets all the settings every time

Hi Filler,

I had a similar problem with my Acer and a Viking card. To cut a long story short, I discovered that the PPC was (often) treating the whole card as write-protected (so TT could not write its configuration file).

The write-protect "switch" on the side of the SD card is purely mechanical (like on floppy disks) and I think it might be slightly more recessed on these cards. Together with perhaps a slight misalignment of the detection switch in the PPC, the card can appear write-protected with the slider in either position.

If you have this problem with a Toshiba card (branded Kingston, Viking or Ebuyer, etc.) try sticking a small piece of Sellotape over the write-protect switch. And if you want to check directly on the PPC if files are write-protected, then install a "proper" file explorer like Tascal Explorer (TPE). If it can't change the read-only attribute of any file, then the card is being treated as write-protected.

Cheers, Alan.

Thanks alan will give it a go,

just an update, i put everything on my cf card, and ran some tests late last night, added favourites, ticked poi speed cam settings, and all is fine.

next question, is the sellotape to stop the lock moving, or to keep it back from being detected, can you email me a picture ?

Hi Filler,

I had wondered if the Write Protect "switch" on the SD card was sliding sideways when inserted into the PPC, but no, the Sellotape is intended to raise the level of the slider so that it "sticks out" more. If the sensor in the PPC thinks it is "falling into" the hole in the side of the SD card, then it applies Write-Protection.

I think the real problem may be a slight misadjustment of the WP detector in my Acer (because the same card works fine in a Mio), but I don't feel inclined to send it back to Acer when such a simple "fix" works.

I've wondered about doing a "proper" modification to the card, such as putting a tiny blob of glue on the top of the "slider" (i.e. extending it sideways from the card) or maybe putting Sellotape on the other side of the card (if the card isn't a sufficiently tight sideways fit in the SD slot). But so far, I'm just happy that I've got TT working properly (or at least as far as that particular bug is concerned Smile ).

Cheers, Alan.

Hi Filler
I also have a 2210 with TT5 and a 1Gb Kingston card. My Tomtom has never forgot a thing and why yours has I do not know. Perhaps someone else has the answer.
