I am looking to buy Tom Tom 2 Navigator and a Dell Axim X5.

Does the processing speed effect the use of the GPS. (The slower the processor is the slower your journey is calculated etc)?

What is the difference between SD and CF memory and which would be the best for me?

It doesn't affect the GPS as in, the data stream, but it will obviousuly be slower running route calculations. Think of what an application like Microsoft Office used to run on, on your previous PC and what it ran on, on an upgraded PC. There will always be a difference, and there is quite a difference between 200 and 400 Mhz processors.

SD memory is slightly slower in reading/writing compared with CF memory. CF is cheaper than SD and available in larger sizes. If you're looking for a Pocket PC with both slots, SD will work fine from a GPS point of view reading data and maps from the card, and you could then use a CF card GPS if you wanted to, or use the slot for other accessories.

SD memory is much slimmer, and unless you're going to do something heavy with it like reading 30mb MP3's, then SD should be fine for what you want. If you want to play MP3's whilst navigating, then I'd recommend having MP3's on a CF card and your GPS Maps on an SD card.

Dave's advice is good. You will need to be careful with your choice of SD card though. There have been discussions here about this and also on Aximsite.com
