while debating whether to get a charger from ebay for 15 quid, i noticed that my digital camera charger was not being used. i flipped it over and saw that it powers 5.3 volts, which is 0.3v over the reccommended power.

is this 0.3v too much? or will it do the job?

many thanks for your help

how can i check if it is 2amps?

the jack fits in perfectly.

so how come it doesnt matter if its over 5volts? because it says on the bottom 5V.

its a standard casio exilm digital camera charger, so will this be over 2A?

sorry for all the questions i just want to make sure that i dont ruin the damn thing!

thanks

Over 2A is not a problem, but below 0.7A might be. Check the jack polarity as well (just in case) if you have a voltmeter. But if you are not sure what you are doing, get yourself a proper TomTom mains charger.

it will charge the unit, but it is safer to use a proper TomTom charger.

Charging requires a certain current profile If the battery is nearly discharged the initial current flow can be quite high, so your unit will be demanding (say) 1.5A from the charger. The charger will be limiting the output to 0.65A. Depending on how the charger is designed, it might become overheated or damaged. The correct profile for charging the battery in the unit will not be followed either. I'm not sure if it will shorten the battery life or otherwise damage it, but it is simply not worth the risk.
