Folks,

I have a few trips to Europe coming up and I am wondering if anyone can give advice about speed traps in Europe. I will be driving in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany.

How do the Gatsos work in these countries, RADAR, Laser or truvelo?

Fixed cameras or mobile?

Do they have white lines on the road like the UK?

Are speed camera areas clearly marked?

What are the legalities of RADAR detectors in these countries?

Are there any databases of speed camera locations available?

Will they try to trace my UK registered vehicle or not bother?

Cheers,

Skippy

I have also heard this about France - tales of users being fined and made to destroy their detector by driving over it. Whether the same would be true for a PDA with navigation and camera warnings is something to ponder. I read a long thread on a TVR forum about whether or not the French Police time you between autoroute toll booths and issue tickets that way - it seems the answer is both yes and no. Of course if it's true, a detector won't help.
