Holux GM-210 + Seidio Car Mount Experiment Help Request

I have the Seidio G2500 car mount with an HP4700. I used to use a BT GPS but as is well reported the lag on Navigon used to get me going, especially in London. After much trying to get assistance from Navigon one of the German forums had a post from a guy using a wired mouse who said although he had lag it was typically around 0.25 sec (how he could count that I don't know).

So, I have a Holux GM-210, obviously I need a RJ11 fitting on it. OK I organise a Seidio adapter cable (but everyone is out of stock so I go on back order), but I start thinking (a dangerous thing) what if I cut my Holux PS/2 adapter off and fitted an RJ11 adapter on......I don't need a connector AND I get to shorten the length of the mouse cable so it looks tidier on the windscreen.

Then the query arises, where do I put the wires in the RJ11, and who would know?

I doubt Holux would be too keen on me cutting up their equipment so I am a little reluctant to ask them and I cannot find a wiring diagram on their site. I emailed Seidio and then phoned a techhie in the US, same again, does not want to tell me because they lose a sale. soooooooo

Has anyone here got the GM-210/Siedio link cable - if so could you tell me the pin colour order of the wiring?

OR

Has anyone done this already or does anyone already know what the wiring scheme is?

Thanks for that, but the colours are different. I decided to chop the cable and I have:

Red
Green
Blue
White
Yellow
Black

So I am guessing that the schematic is correct, but they have changed their wiring. Now I just have to figure out how these fit the wiring on the Seidio.

Yep, I had just found that one myself. Problem is it shows 4 cables not 6, therefore 2 must be redundant.

Guess the next step is to open the 210 and have a look at where they are soldered and see if 2 are redundant or crossed or something.

In this pdf file, GM 210 receiver manual it shows you the ps 2 plug with descriptions of connections not wire colours but this should help.

So if the diagram shown is correct 5 are used and one is not RX(TTL).

Ok we are getting closer. All I need to do is to match Holux colours to Seidio.

Maybe it was easier to just wait for the Holux/Seidio Cable, but I am at least having some fun. Laughing

I am going to take the Seidio Unit apart and see if the wiring iin that gives any clues. But not till tomorrow. Too much excitement for one day.

As I see this your GM 210 has the same number of wires as my GR 211 (6) but only 4 are used as the IPAQ's use the rs232 serial connection. So only pins 1, 2, 4 & 6 (GM 210) are used

Thanks for that.

So if we assume Red = +5VDC & Black = Ground

What do "guess" 1 & 6 to be?

The only way to identify what colour cable is which is to use an ohm meter or continuity tester to test which colour wire is conected to which pin in the plug that you have cut off

Carbon - You have my immense thanks for your help. Sorted.

Ground = White
RX = Yellow
TX = Green
VCC = Red

Got an RJ11 and Crimper from Maplins. Set it up, and it came into life straight away.

It's currently wired into the Seidio Mount with my HP 4700 and Navigon running in the middle of my lounge showing 6 satellites through a Velux window. :D :D :D :D :D :D

I assume this hasn’t cost as much as an adaptor cable

So probably 1.50 more, but I get a cable the exact length I want without a long length that I have to try and hide.
