I have recently bought a Navman 3450 for my aged Ipaq 3630, after initially ordering the product I stumbled across some interesting articles with regards compatibility issues with older IPAQ's so visited the NAVMAN site to find that my ipaq was not listed as being compatible, I e-mailed tech support at Navman with my concerns and they advised categorically that the Navman would not work with my IPAQ due to lack of memory etc.

Anyhow when the item turned up the next day I thought I might as well try it and initially did have problems where the program would start to open and then simply close without error, I did some housekeeping and removed unused programs etc until I had 18Mb free memory for the program to run and hey presto it works fine, I must admit if I try to run up the explorer application simultaneously to the navman software the navman software again quietly closes down in the background but for use as a GPS device in the car I am very happy...

Has anyone else had issues running Navman software with older IPAQ's or has any top tips please reply tothis thread.

Cheers

John

I've experienced similar problems with multi tasking on my 3630 and SmartST. I had much better luck with it, after I did a hard reset of the Ipaq - and all I have installed on it now is just SmartST, and I've dedicated it purely to be a Navigation System now.

The only thing I do notice if I do anything else on the Ipaq with SmartST running, it tends to loose its GPS Fix, but when you go back to SmartST - there is a small 10 second pause while it gets its fix back.

I've been concerned for some while that I may have problems running SmartST on my 3630, especially as it doesn't seem to be mentioned much in any of its literature anymore! But I have virtually no problems, it never crashes, and I use it 3/4 times daily!

Hope the above is of some help.

Simon

Cheers for the feedback simon, Im still over the moon with my new toy, it has thrown up a few quirks even though I still have not done more than a 8 mile journey with it....

Quirk number one :- It gets a bit confused on dog leg crossroads (ie staggered crossroads where you have to cut right then left to go straight over if you see what I mean), the navman tells me to go right which is confusing and then seems to forget about the left... if I do not check the map on screen quickly I would naturally think I had to turn right at the crossroads...

Quirk Number Two :- This one is not so much of a problem but does intruige me, testing the navman from work to home for the past three days the device has routed me via three different routes each time... they are all valid routes of approx. the same distance but it does make me wonder how it calculates the routes, surely if the start point is the same in each case the quickest route would remain the quickest route everyday... maybe those kind developers at Navman want to relieve the boredom of a drive home by way of introducing "a change is as good as a rest" technology into the code.

All in all I am very VERY happy with the device, the big test will be tonight when it will be tested to its limits as it tries to navigate me 200 miles with a car full of screaming adults to a stag do.
