I'm seriously considering purchasing Navigate 5 for my Audiovox PPC. I've read some mixed reviews and something was pointed out about the 3D and 2D map which raised a few questions...

If I choose to use the 2D map will it allow me to use that view and keep my location centered on the 2D map as I travel or will it keep switching back to 3D as I get closer to the next instructions?

Can I zoom in or out on a 2D map and will it hold it there or will the software choose which zoom ration is better?

Thanks for you help.

Mark

It's either all 2D or all 3D - there is no mixed mode. There is a menu option to switch between the two modes

No

The software will auto-zoom after a few seconds. Tomtom have made a mistake in their software in this respect because the settings of zoom they have chosen are not to good. It is a common complaint that the zoom function is not sticky.

I prefer the 2D for general driving as it shows you more detail of the surrounding area where POIs on the 3D view tend to appear as blurs on the horizon.

For night driving down country lanes and driving in fog however I prefer 3D as it allows you to see upcoming bends and position them and judge how severe they are on the road ahead far more easier.

You can on the GO (and im pretty sure on the navigator software) edit the menu software so the option to switch between views is located on the first screen so two taps and you can switch between the two.
