I'm posting this here, as I have recommended InnerBackup on this forum, so wanted to warn anyone who is using this !

I have been using InnerBackup for about a year, and run weekly backups
in case of a problem, thankfully I have never had to restore.

I tried to start InnerBackup today, and got an error

"src/main.c Line:83: Version expired. Download a new version."

I was slightly horrified by this, as if I had needed to restore a backup this would have been impossible. I was using a version downloaded in November last year, which reported itself as v02 (so I assume v2.02 but not sure), so I figured downloading the latest version was a good idea
anyway.

I go to the InnerSoftware website to download latest version from
http://www.innersoftware.com/usa/products/innerbackup/

to download the latest version (v2.08), which I have installed, but I
still get this error:

"src/main.c Line:90: Version expired. Download a new version."

It looks like the person who last updated the release forgot to change
the expiry date, which is a fairly major problem and makes me worry
that I was relying on this software for my backups ?

I have to say I think to time limit 'making backups' would be fair, but
to prevent the whole program running (and restoring a previous backup)
is heavy handed and could cause a major problem, and is probably not a
very good way to control your software, especially if its freeware
anyway !!

As a workaround, I have found if I set my palm date back to 2004, the program works fine, so hopefully you could do this to restore a backup if needed, but this is a real shame, as good freeware software is a great advert for a company, but tricks like this leave a nasty taste in the mouth I think !

I emailed InnerSoftware with this problem yesterday, and they have replied this morning to say they have fixed this, and a new version is now available to download from website.

I assume this is also time limited, so be aware that you may need to set your clock back to restore a backup if this limit is hit !!
