I am currently using TT mobile on a smartphone. I will probably change to a pocket PC type soon. Can any users tell me how long TT5 will run on the K-Jam/IMate 9100/Vario/HTC Wizzard variants on a single charge.
PS great forum, been lurking a month or so. |

Welcome to the forum, as you will be running TT5 it will be in the car or on a motorbike, so get it powered off the cigy socket and that way it will remain on regardles of the battery status, so the duration it will run on its own power is not really relevant - Mike |

He didn't say that. It find TomTom to be just as useful when walking around a city (for example) with no external power source, so battery life can be important. |

This is true, I want to consider usage away from a power supply ie. walking and push biking. |

Fair shout I should have read a bit more into the question, If its for walking on roads etc TT is OK, but it hammers the PDA's processor which inturn eats the battery life.
OS maps are better for walking/ off road duties as it will track your current position and not snap to the nearest road (which TT will do) typically I get twice as long out of a full charge running the OS (6,5 Hrs) in comparison to the TT (3Hrs) note this is on the XDAIIs (HTC Blue Angel) with a double capacity battery fitted.
As an alternative you can allways carry an external pocket battery pack (or attach it to the bike) - Any one else own the specific device refered to in the original post and offer some expected duration? Mike |

I have an iPaq 4150 and the TT3 Bluetooth GPS reciever.
The iPaq will last about 2 hours (with TT5 & Bluetooth running), and the BT GPS will go for about 4 hours. |

I will not claim this to be either scientific or an accurate in the field test but here are my findings.
Test setup.
1.Straight off the charger.
2.Bluetooth GPS reciever paired throughout the test.
3.No other programs running in the background.
4.No calls made or received.
5.Backlight set at 50%, volume 30%, constantly on throughout.
6.Running Tomtom Navigator 5.2, GB map (Looping a 12 mile route in demo mode at 200% to load the processor).
Results.
1.At 4h 15m low battery (30%) warning appeared on the Tomtom route demo.
2.At 5h 50m low battery/may loose data (10%) warning appeared on the Vario (a good point to stop).
Far better than I expected. It is clear from the maths that it is I who will retire from the walk/cycle ride before the batttery does. The Bt GPS lasts ~10/12 Hrs. |
