Okay peeps:
I can now make custom voices for the i3...
Currently it's done using a couple of Python scripts - the next step is to "productise" the code into a more user-friendly Windows application.
Watch this space! ;) |

I suppose for a laugh the drill instructor from Full Metal Jacket would be amusing.....especially if you missed the turn / didnt follow his directions? :P |

IMHO, the original voice and warnings on the i3 are excellent already unlike the ones on the overhyped TomTom which are really robotic and low in volume. I don't think it would be quite as important to change the voices on the Garmin apart maybe for the fun of having a celebrity voice or something similar. |

I'm not sure how practical (or indeed useful) it would be to customise the entire voice - the vocubulary contains over 130 different samples. Anyone wanting to do this would certainly have their work cut out.
The main reason for me doing this work was so that I can:
i) change the poi/camera warning to something a bit louder and persistant than a simple "bing bong".
ii) mute the (IMHO) irritating "recalculating" phrase.
I've now ported the code to C, and have a pair of small EXEs - one to split the VPM file into the separate samples, one another to join them back up again. A bit more testing and they'll be ready for release. |

Ash, I noticed a few things yesterday that might be of use, dont know if you picked up. Header file varies in length between language files although reference is always at the end. Also there is a short variable length trailer on each file after the wavs easily identified as the bytes after the last sample when taken from the reference table.
Are you still just working on the English_British File or have you managed to copy a modified English file and save it under one of the other languages. I'm still trying to get that working, i.e. workout how I can save a modified English voice file under other languages. Keep having other work get in the way. |

Also looked into this. Voice files can be editted on the I3. However I now have a C310. On the C3xx the voice files are not stored on the SD card so its an easier job by a long way on an I3. That said theres a voice file update for the C3xx available from Garmin, that could plausibly be used as something to edit. |

I would like these changes also! Any chance you could make your file available?
Kind regards,
