same problem here on my 236, latest firmware 3.11 too.
The record is about 35 mins to first fix, the quickest is about 4 seconds.

Same thing here. Had mine for just over a week. TTFF started at less than a minute, but has been creeping up and is now over 10 minutes.

Like MikeProcter (see earlier post) I also have the GR-213 wired receiver and had similar problems (refer to GR-213 TTF thread) which you are all describing.

I am also interested interested to learn whether these problems are specific to Holux SIRF III products or SIRF III in partiular.

In fairness, the problem (at least as far as concerns the GR-213) comes in two 'flavours':

1 Difficulties when trying to obtain a fix whilst connected to TTN5

2 Difficulties in getting a fix by the receiver on its own.

Problem 1 is not a 'Holux-problem' and can be overcome by allowing the receiver to establish a fix before running TTN5. This should usualy take less than a minute.

Problem 2 as detailed in the thread is associated to units powered via cigarette lighter adaptors, which suffer multiple power on/offs whilst cranking the engine. Holux's workaround suggestion is to only power on the unit once the engine is running. This does seem to return the unit to the TTFF's when new, but requires an initial cold start with GPSViewer to clear the unit before embarking on this 'new regime'

Earlier on, Holux did say that this problem did not affect the GR-236 as it did not suffer a power denial since this was being supplied by its own battery!

Hope this helps

Regards

Well, in my case it is the second problem, because I always wait for the GPSlim to get a fix before turning on the navigation software. The GPS battery is fully charged, I turn it on and wait. When new, the TTFF was less than a minute, a week later it had risen to over 10 minutes in exactly the same location. Once it has a fix, it works perfectly.

Hello!

I've been asked by NC to comment as it seems there are a few off you out there with problems with your GR236's - sorry to hear it.

The first thing I will say is that the GR213 problem should not be linked to this issue. The GR213 uses different firmware. The issues with the GR213 have been investigated by Holux Technology and a solution should be available shortly. Unfortunately I am unable to advise on this any further at the moment.

I have asked Holux Technology to comment on the postings on the forum with regards issues with fix at low speeds. My advise with regards to this is to allow the GPS to gain a lock in all cases before starting your journey.

With regards gaining a lock when stationary, if the device takes longer than 5 minutes from a warm start - ie restarting a journey if you have stopped for fuel, then my advise would be to contact your supplier and ask for the device to be checked as it may have a problem with the internal antenna.

Hope this helps.
Julie

Hello again!

I've had a response from Holux Technologies tech team.
They have agreed that you should not be seeing the TTFF that you are all stating when stationary.
Therefore please contact your supplier for warranty support.

They have stated that they will investigate the issues with regard fix at low speed, but do make the statement you should allow the receiver to gain a fix before starting to navigate.

Hope this helps.
Regards,
Julie

my retailer has replaced my GR236 4 times due to failure to fix (TTFF) problems, and i'm having them again, not just at slow speeds (i have fixed location upon start-up, no obstructions, no RF interferance, different locations, battery out reboot, etc.).

so far this has been more of a liability than an asset.
god bless my retailer (semsons), but the postage and lack of functionality is killing me.

please resolve.

thanks.

Hi Corba,
Can you check what firmware version your receiver is using?
You should not have had that many failures due to hardware failure.

Julie

This problem is not only on the Holux as I have a Globalsat 338 and when I first got it even if it was off a week I got a fix within 30 seconds and in the house not near a window it always picked up 10 sats and if I put it a drawer between loads of jumpers it normally locked onto 5 sats but now if its been off a week it can take up to 7 minutes and that’s by a window it probably wouldn’t even lock if it was hidden away somewhere and in the house it only normally picks up 8 sats and in the drawer only locks onto 3 so over time the receiver has degraded, my mates got a snooper indigo and even if its been off a long time it gets a sat lock as soon as its switched on thats impressive

my GR236 wouldn't fix at all, even after being on for 6 hours, in several fixed locations, then later that night, it fixed... that was this (4th) GR236, others wouldn't fix even after days of on by window.

Sometimes the only way to get a fix is to do a cold start via a pocket pc.

Pity, it's a nice unit otherwise.

I took my 236 into NY today as I was planning on walking around Greenwich. I got out of the subway station, switched on the 236 and didn't get a fix for 16 minutes. I was in a park so there weren't any tall buildings or tree obscuring the sky.

Whenever I went into a building and came back out it took 10-15 minutes to fix again. It was a little annoying. I would have thought Holux would have come out with a firmware update by now as this has been a known problem since it was launched.

Come on Holux sort this out.
