I want to upgrade the UK map on my Navigon 4.2 which I've had since Oct 2004, but I'm not at all sure how to do this.

I've looked at the Navigon site and they seem to sell something called CLEVERMAP but give no indication of how up to date this is and it's quite expensive. Is this worthwhile?

Does anyone know if there's any other way of updating the map? I only have a memory card which doesn't fit my Sony memory stick reader so I have no idea how to connect the Navigon card to my laptop.

Sorry to sound so dumb- all help gratefully appreciated. Confused Embarassed

I used Navigon 4.2 in the past and updated to the latest Navigon 5 with the patch they released to version 5.1 This was the most waste of money I have spent, the gps program runs so slowly on my Mio168 that it renders it useless, the map display being 4-5 seconds behind.

Navigon v5 maps will not run with v4.xx software as they have updated the gps program, so that why its so cxxp, just a beta release as far as I'm concerned.

Have now spent a lot more cash and purchased TomTom 5, there is just no comparison between them, TomTom 5 is just so much better.

These are just my personal feelings, others may have different results.

Thank you for this very swift reply.

I gather then from your reply, that the CLEVERMAP is a waste of time ? :o

I am happy to change to another Satnav - why do you think the TomTom is better? Because I do so much travelling, often to very obscure places, I'm keen to find something that can be quickly and easily updated and doesn't take ages to 'programme' with a destination. If tomTom does that then that's fab. Question

I think that TomTom is as good as any gps software you can buy, it also now includes full 7 digit post code search for the UK, again the new Navigon v5 does not. If you have been happy with Navigon 4.2 as I was then moving to TomTom should not dissapoint.

TomTom menus are easy to understand and it usualy works fine, like all gps software the maps will never be bang upto date, this is because it takes several months for the data to be processed by the gps companies once it has been obtained from the map data suppliers such as Tele Atlas or NavTeq.

Have a browse thru the different gps forums here to see all of the different gps programs, TomTom is just one of many that you could purchase.

The end choice has to be yours, just make sure that if you purchase some new software that it compatible with your gps unit.
