I have also had my N70 reflashed. It is a great improvement, but still not perfect. In order to make TT work reliably I have found that I still need to either avoid using the Bluetooth handfree at the same time as the Bluetooth GPS receiver, OR restart the phone between each TT session.

I thought i had version 3 flashed on my phone when in fact it is version 5.

V5.0606.2.0.6
11-02-06
AM-84

With this version 5 all the problems with TomTom are solved. I have used the N70 for hours with TomTom and it works fine.

I can even use my bluetooth headset at the sametime. I hear TomTom through it and when a phone call comes in i hear the call. Once the call is finished TomTom sometimes stays on loudspeaker instead of going back to my bluetooth headset but i can live with that.

I almost gave up and bought a 6680 because my friends have no problems with the 6680 and TomTom but now its fine.

where did u get the version 5 from?

I'm in Birmingham and there is a place here called Intercity Mobiles that say they will look at my phone and do whatever it needs to stop the freezing. They will keep it for 48 hours though. Not sure what they will do it though. oh and they're gonna do it free of charge

Hoping they upgrade the firmware...currently got v 2.0537.1.7

i just want to be able to use tomtom!

Hi

I got mine from a Nokia centre. If you go to a Nokia centre they will have the latest version a lot earlier than someone down town.

This is an authorised Nokia service centre apparently

called Carphone Warehouse...they told me they hadnt been given the software for the N70 and that they would need to send the phone off to Nokia..and that would take 14 days.....boo that!!!

gonna give it to these guys...see what happens

i recently got my N70 updated from a 2.03 to a 2.0537.1.7.

iv got an orange phone, goes anyone else have an orange phone with a higher software on there N70?

the bloke at the nokia shop said that he couldnt flash my phone on site and that he had to send it off to nokia for them to do it.

thinking of getting tt5 on there, but im thinking whether or not theres any point of me spending £50 on a gps reciever if the tt5 isnt gonna work properly on it and resulting it in crashing when the navi is activated.

anyone else using there tom tom 5 on this software?
having any problems or is it working fine?

cheers in advance,

Skiddy

The Nokia centre i am talking about is run by Nokia themselves. The only one i know about is in Huntingdon. They do a lot of testing in the workshop and have a very small part for customers. They don't sell phones only chargers, headsets etc etc and of course they can flash your phone for a price and it only takes 10 minutes.

The version 5 i have has only been available the past 2 weeks.

I have an N70 and TT mobile 5, and the performance is sketchy.

If you read forums widely enough it appears that there are major problems with this phone and TT.

This especially goes for Orange. We with Orange suffer from a crippled phone interface, stuck with a firmware version about as old as the ark. The orange firmware is firmly stuck in version 2.......

As Orange have messed with the firmware for their own ends, the home screen thing (which I don't mind, but others seem to hate) etc, they seem in no hurry to update (at all) from the current version.

It appears from discussions I have had with Orange customer services that they have no interest in anyone who asks about a firmware upgrade, they direct you straight to Nokia, who then tell you to go and find your local service centre, who may help you at a cost (see elsewhere on here)

Using the TT GPS V2, I have had some random phone lock ups withTT, requiring the full phone re-boot thing; usually at critical journey moments.

Orange say there is no reason why you cannot upgrade to the latest generic firmware, but some things may not work. Depending on who you talk to on 150, this may just be Orange TV (so what), or may include everything other than voice calls.

Has anyone on Orange updated their firmware to the latest gernic, and if so what were the effects....?

Hi all.
Have my N70 'flashed' twice at two different nokia centers.
It still shows V 2.0537.1.7
18-09-05
AM-84.
I am promised by them that this is the latest version for the orange
network!!! Is that so? Is the N70 phone, TT & orange network linked?

Hi

I have the very latest version on my n70 which is version 5 and not easy to get hold of as it has only been out 3 weeks.

I drive all over the UK every week and i have tested this phone out with TomTom.

Most of the problems have disappeared and now the N70 can be used with TomTom BUT every few minutes TomTom shows GPS device not found for about 30 seconds and then finds it again.

The fault is without any doubt a bluetooth fault with the N70. I know this because i had my bluetooth headset connected the same time and the GPS device and when TomTom showed no gps device found my bluetooth headset also disconnected from the phone.

20 seconds is not a long time really but it is when you are coming upto a roundabout and need to know which way to turn.

A friend of mine has a 6680 and he also has the same problems as i do. The reason for this is because the inside and software of the N70 and the 6680 are virtually the same.

The problem we all have is the connection between the phone and the gps device and there are only 2 ways to fix this. One is to connect via cable the phone and the gps device which i am not sure is possible. The other is to buy a phone/PDA with a built in gps device.

I am personally going to look into getting one of these. I hear that the HP IPAQ hw6515 may be capable of doing this. If it is i will sell my N70 and use the money to buy one.

If my N70 software is only 3 weeks old it will be a while before a real fix comes out and i need navigation now not later.

Hope this helps someone out there.

I am told by Orange that V2.0537.1.7 is the only version for Orange phones.

And they are in no hurry to provide an offical "Orange" update.

I have an ofical response from TT that they recognise V 3.0546.2.3 as the (lowest) reccommended firmware version for running TT. (lowest is my interpretation of their answer)

I will ask Orange again whether they can provide me with an updated phone, but expect to bang my head against their corporate wall.

Has anyone out their flashed their Orange phone to a generic firmware ?

I think others have had the same problem with BT headsets, anyone got any ideas?

Hi 3g,
Can you tell us what network you're with and if the phone is branded in anyway?
Thanks,
Rob

Hi

I have a contract with 3 which is the 3g network. I have just found out that there is no IPAQ that can do 3g at the moment only 2g.

What i have now with the n70 and TomTom is acceptable. When it loses the device it only drops for about 20 seconds maximum mostly 5 seconds. I have found an improvement with only a pairing to my GPS device, hidden from the rest and have it plugged in to the cig lighter connection.

By next year there should be a good IPAQ out there that works with TomTom. IPAQ's have more processing power than basic phones which will help matters and they have a built in GPS receiver so there is no need for bluetooth which only complicates matters.

Regards

John
