You need to install it across the back of the cig lighter socket, if you go for the capacitor option connect across the pos (centre) and neg (outer) terminals this is commonly known as a parallel connection, I would not recommend messing with any of the cables going to the PDA as they are normally screened cables which do not easily lend themselves to modification, the real cure is to kill the noise at source with a new alternator suppression unit, the cap option will work though - Mike

The fact that this thread went dead, I guess you did.

If you did not, here is what I did when I had virtually the same problem.

My iPaq is connected to my Sony stereo via a headphone to phono lead and 'ticked' (rather than screeched), the ticking mirrored the engine revs. I went to the local car stereo shop, he did me a suppressor (on sale or return) that had a pair of phono plugs and sockets and a mysterious metal box (about 20 x 60 x 60). It worked.

Reply if you want me to dig it out my glove box and give you the product code.

Regards,

PAUL

I saw in halfords the bit your talking about but you noise was the fault of the stereo thats why you got the big box, they sold me a small suppressor with a single wire, I bolted it to the alternator, and spliced the wire into the +12v comming out, and the schreech went away
