|
|
I spend a lot of my time travelling around the Midlands (Middle England). The complete single file UK Camera Data base slows down the boot up time of the Destinator software on my GNAV10 sat nav unit by several minutes (3min 40 sec approx)
So I have separated the database into four areas:-
North Above Lat 54.0000
Below Long -5.3000
Central Between Lat 52.0000 to 54.0000
Long All
South Below Lat 52.0000
Long All
N.Ireland Between Lat 53.8000 to 55.5000
Above Long -5.3000
This separates the country nicely (for me)
North England area above Harrogate
Central England area between Harrogate & Banbury
South England area below Banbury
& Northern Ireland
Anyone familiar with excel should be able to ‘sort’ and ‘delete’ data in the database, then save the remaining data as a new file, i.e. pocketgps_uk_sc_north
Then copy the required files into Destinator.
Destinator now starts with the Central region cameras in 1min 30 sec
Regards

Sounds like a good idea to the problem.
I would ask, when was the last tiem you did a hard reset? as three minutes to load the full camera file is over the top.
I haven't timed mine accurately but I know it's nowhere near that!!
Are you sure it's not something else wrong that's taking the time???

Yes, mine never took that long. Although now with POI Observer working properly (thanks to some help from jimbo_hippo) I don't use the database in Destinator anymore. _________________ LG G4, Google Nexus 9, Garmin Oregon 600T |

Hi guys, I can confirm that the boot up times of the Destinator software quoted in my previous post are correct, even after a hard reset - (just performed one).
Perhaps its because I'm running the software on a dedicated sat nav unit and not on a PDA. I assume that the memory / RAM memory and speed of processor on a PDA is probably higher / quicker.
Spec on the Goodmans unit is:-
Windows WinCE 4.20(0)
Processor ARM Ver 4
Total RAM 45000Kb
Total Store 15000Kb
Total Memory 60000Kb
Memory Card 256Mb
Regards

Hi guys, I am having exactly the same problems with the very slow start up time. I am also using the GNAV 10.
Also, it takes an age when you click on a camera icon for its info. |

You might like to have a look at my POIGrouper program. Look in the Programs area on http://rjdavies.users.btopenworld.com

I'm hoping to do a guide to setting up POIObserver but the date is Getting further away coz I keep getting sent around the globe (hang on..... I work for myself..... ???) It works a treat with Destinator but takes some setting up once. Then its simple stuff from thereon in with the Speed Camera Database and so on.
Bear with me. Sometime next month. Promise! _________________ Tom Tom GO 720
