Hi

I have just bought Go 300 & noticed very quickly that a local road that has been open for 2yrs now is missing from th map.

How would I check if have got the latest maps?

If I have not then where do I get updated maps from?

Are updates included in original purchase?

The unit I bought could have sat on a shelf for some time prior to me purchasing.

The 300 has the latest maps. TomTom seem to update each Spring. All satnav maps are a year or two (or more) out of date in some areas.

If you go to the Preferences and tap through to near the last page, there is an option to show the map version and other stuff. You map should be v 568 or 572 or something beginning with 5. The different numbers relate to the size of the map (GB only, GB + Europe, whole of Europe in detail etc.) not the actual detail of the streets on it.

Thanks for reply, map is: 'Great_Britain-Map' v562.
I do not know if this is latest version & how to get latest if not.
When updates are released do we have to buy or are they provided as part of original package.

At the time of writing there have been NO map updates since the 300/500/700 were launched, so you have the latest.
As said, the next update may be in the spring and will cost. Around 59 euro is likely.

OK thanks for info.

So we are always going to be out of date with maps.

I thought that they would be providing regular updates...silly me.

Unfortunatly, the way that these maps are produced makes it IMPOSSIBLE to keep them 100% up-to-date.
Making these maps is a very expensive and very time-consuming process.

That's untrue of any real database. (The bit about impossible to keep up-to-date that is).

While 100% might be well nigh impossible, you can get near enough. The down side is that near enough for some salesman from teleAtlas isn't necessarily near enough for those of us who live or drive on a map error.

What IS possible (Technologically) is to provide a means for editing the map database & fixing problems. Like the ccgpmapper project & mapedit etc for garmin maps.

Where there's a big enough market (i.e. enough clever people buying one of these in a country that doesn't imprison people for trying to improve their purchase), someone will eventually write a program to decode a TT teleatlas map to polish map format, where it can then be edited & fixed and re-compiled into TT format & re-inserted into the unit.

The only questions then are

1. What the TT/teleatlas format is.
2. Whether it's possible to display the then edited map without having to get it re-enabled by TT.

Oh... Expensive? Maybe. Not sure anyone has ever really produced a list of how much they actually cost. But most of it comes from OSGB anyway... So it's not much more expensive to produce these than a paper map (Aside from routing information, which OSGB will also have anyway). Which I can pickup at a bookstore for about a fiver...

Currently the lastest map versions are 562 for country specific maps, 568 for the Plus Maps and 572 for the Western Europe maps on the 700.

Not appretiated that map errors wouldn't be corrected in updates. So effectively a TTG is a yearly sub of 59 Euros + any upgrade to a new ver like 6 (though possibly included within a new version?)

I'm sure I read that you got map updates as part of the deal

*goes and has a browse around.
