I had heard this b4 and read about it again yesterday that these may well make their way onto UK roads.

I am all for safety etc but I do believe that the majority of safety cameras are there to raise cash and these snooper ones will be even worse.

I can't see how a camera database could exist for these?

I can't even see this coming into fruition because of the laws on visibilty.

Firstly, the freedom of information act means that information that is in the public interest, must be released into the public domain (in this case, the issue of road safety) Basically, if you wrote to your local council with asking for all speed camera locations in your region, they have to tell you as that information is in the interest of public safety.

Secondly. The Govt, Police and local councils continue to claim that they would rather not have out money and that they are not out to get us (whether you believe it or not is another issue) Instead, they tell us that they want to inform us when were are in dangerous stretches of roads / accident blackspots so that we are then inclined to pay extra attention to our driving, hence the reason why cameras are bright yellow boxes..

Are there any articles about these anywhere?

I keep hearing this one but It's just turned out to be rumour - If something like this was coming to the UK it would be all over the Police websites, news websites etc..........

It was in the Sun newspaper (so you may not believe it), it appears that a well known Chief Constable in Wales was talking about these Cats eye cameras

I’ve done a bit of searching and Steve Warren’s UK Speed Traps mentions Cat’s Eye Cameras. The actual page is here.

Unfortunately I can’t read it at work because it is "Access Denied" courtesy of SurfControl! Evil or Very Mad

Regards,

Whilst I'm probably being paranoid, I can't help wondering if a GPS based road charging system would also be able to monitor speed constantly on any road and automatically dish out fines. What a money spinner that would be!

I hear also that in the future they will also be able to detect if a male driver looks at a female in another vehicle or walking by the road side and relay this information to the internal "jealousy" chip present in their partners brains prompting them to thump said driver on the arm along with the word "keep your eyes on the road"

That's why I wear a heavily padded jacket on the motorbike.

Joking aside, these cats eyes are a serious safety issue for anyone on two wheels. A local council has installed a mile or two of the "glow in the dark" cats eyes. Big round glass domed things that absorb light during the day, charge up then light up after dark.

You can't cycle near the kerb as the darned things whip your wheels out from under you and I certainly wouldn't like to catch a motorcyle front wheel on one of the centre line eyes (after say an overtake) as you'd be straight on the deck.
