Anquet and the GPS unit. Garmin | Magellan GPS only?

Looking at OS based mapping software I downloaded and was
impressed by the memory-map product. No problem linking
to my GPS unit BU-353, ssIII unit.

Similarly I downloaded the Anquet demo (after reading about
quibbles with memory-map upgrades at this site) and tried the same.
Since the demo provides a UK map it seemed reasonable.
The GPS option offered Garmin, Magellan or 'nearly' define your own.
It seemed as interested in upload as download, but I specified the port,
NMEA, 4800 (its going via USB and a converter to the GPS).
It eventually bombed out, asking to report the problem back to base.

Is it restricted to Garmin | Magellan only in terms of GPS access?

You will find the same quibbles with the Anquet software now they have bought out their new version.
